What a surprise.....our starting right tackle, a walk-on that no other school wanted, has lost his job after week 2. Are the cupboards really that bare?

The success of last year really makes people forget we are only in year two of a rebuild. So yeah, the cupboard is bare."Are the cupboards really that bare?"
I'll look at the tape and get back to you.
Well the OL wasn't doing that well in pass protection, probably doing whatever they can to get better
Bone, take a look at my post about the 2 Deep if you haven't already. That alone should show about the two deep for the OL. The young guys are a bit higher rated but are that...young. There will be some trial by fire this season as I don't think there is that much separation at some positions between the older and experienced guys versus the younger guys. I think Brohm was giving benefit of the doubt to the older guys with the assumption that experience would win out....What a surprise.....our starting right tackle, a walk-on that no other school wanted, has lost his job after week 2. I think we have some young guys along with some recruits who have a very bright future but creating a Big10 O-lineman takes more than 1 year of development. We MUST be realistic on this, that o-line will be challenged until 2020 except if we get 2 more juco’s or 5th year guys next year-and juco’s are often a 2 year project"Are the cupboards really that bare?"

I think it is going to be a couple 5th year guys. Jucos are hard to project and usually arent productive in their first year on campus.I think we have some young guys along with some recruits who have a very bright future but creating a Big10 O-lineman takes more than 1 year of development. RT - Swingler. Shane Evans was hurt and his injury kept him from getting into game shape. Brohm and Coach Williams must think Evans is ready now. That's my point, when your starting LT is a walkon who had no other offers, that should tell you there's a problem.
Nick Hardwick was a walk-on that ended up a starter in the NFL.What a surprise.....our starting right tackle, a walk-on that no other school wanted, has lost his job after week 2. Are the cupboards really that bare?
LOL!!! CHUCKLE!!!CHUCKLE!!!......I needed a good laugh after a long day on the road.......don't give a Rats Azz who we start on the line as long as they can pass block long enough for our QB'S can actually have more than 2 sec to throw!! Might have to start moving the pocket around or something........."Are the cupboards really that bare?"

Swingler shouldnt be a starter. Everyone brings up Hardwick, but he was athletic and played with great leverage. Swingler was bested by a MAC playerI understand Hazell coule not recruit depth, but what's so wrong. There's a lot of underecruited or walk-on players in the NFL if they have talent, they deserve to be on the field over a 5-star bust.
Ehh, that MAC player would be starter at most B1G schools. He is likely an NFL player as a pass rushing specialist...he's got a great first step in addition to what I believe is around a 4.6 or 4.7 40 yard time. That was the one matchup on EMU's defense that truly worried me and he proved to be a determining factor in the game.Swingler shouldnt be a starter. Swingler got abused by NW’s DEs too.Swingler shouldnt be a starter. Everyone brings up Hardwick, but he was athletic and played with great leverage. Swingler was bested by a MAC player

Max Crosby: 3 tackles 1 sack 1/5 TFL...numerous QB hurries and absorbing double teams that didn't really work out and left the QB really rushing throws at times.
Or it could be that’s all he needed to show and use.He beat him with a speed move, every time. Thats all he had.
Agreed.Or it could be that’s all he needed to show and use.
While I'm guilty of this, a player has to be honest with themselves and what kind of competition they can handle. Sure, they may want to compete agains the best, but when the talent gap is that big, success is going to be tough. Particularly for a guy who's a walkon. There's a harsh reality of why no one offered him a scholarship.Maybe it's just me, but I try not to call out a specific player or say a few degrading remarks about the player. The man is giving everything he has, could be various reasons he isn't doing well at his position. Blame the coach, the player is just wanting to play football, and doing what he can.
