Ohio State at Purdue: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

Lotta bad basketball by both teams this game. This isn't going into the vault.
True, but OSU made a lot of tough shots. Purdue gave them an opening and once they started believing in themselves they became a much tougher opponent. They are a talented team.

Tough loss for Purdue - have to think Smitty will be kicking himself a little. Hopefully they grow from this......but it's an expensive lesson. Even after losing the big lead, that scoreless stretch for almost 5 minutes cost 'em big time.....they were still in position to win with 7+ minutes to go.

Oh well, Boilers have to get back up for Michigan Friday night.

Would have been better dropping Oregon. o$u is a joke.

Yeah, Tex after we got back to a 6 point lead and had the ball I thought we were ok. Very disappointing loss for sure.

Yeah it was one of those bad games for him. Just wasn't effective in the 2nd half at all and put himself in harms way with getting to deep in the paint with nothing available. He tends to do that sometimes. Reminds me when he was a freshman.....he know better.

Yes, we better be ready for Michigan. I believe we were out rebounded tonight and UM will be good in that category.

Perception wise - yeah, maybe.....they count the same, and it wasn't a team near the top of the conference.

You can't let teams hang around or help them out with bad basketball plays......over and done now.....played kind of tight at times, and Braden Smith uncharacteristically taking those two risky early fouls just got him off the whole game, unfortunately.

You are right, it negates the Oregon win. However this is the same OSU that beat Kentucky that we saw in 2nd half. Unfortunately we let them get their heads up.

Smith had an off night. They were giving him his midrange and he couldn't hit it. That was the game IMO. Hopefully he bounces back big against Michigan.

Goldin will own Purdue…tough game even if at home. I was hoping Purdue could hire his service for a year to give Jacobsen time. But… he followed May to the maize and blue.

good teams do not lose at home against Ohio state…we are not very good.

When was the last time …we lost at home?
You really don't think we're good? I get that it wasn't a good loss, but we just beat Oregon on the road, beat Bama at home, and Ole Miss. We are about where we should be ranked. Maybe 15-20, but still a good team.

My version of good is being ranked in that range...not great.

First why did we forget about the 3 and try and force it inside. 2nd can’t continue with only 3 players trying to score all the points and 3rd yes it looks like Painter is trying to run Colvin and Heide off just like last year. Big difference we had Edey to bail him out last year

Matt is not running anyone off. Lol

Apparently more talented than Purdue. Clearly we have to have Smith for 40 minutes.
To me, overall team talent has been an issue for most of painters career. He’s a good coach and gets his players to play hard and as a team. But he’s never recruited at a high level and it shows at times when facing more athletically gifted teams.

I thought sitting Smith when he got 2 fouls was a bad decision. I think we should have rolled the dice and left him in. Ended up probably being his worst shooting game of the season as a result. Was Not very happy with the refs tonight. Smith gets bowled over and they don't call anything? Hopefully we don't lose any more home games the rest of the way. If we do there is likely no way we win the regular season title. Need more from Colvin, Heide and Furst than we got tonight.

Your last sentence is more critical than how long Smith sat.

Feels like two players came to play most of the game, Loyer and TKR.

OSU is probably average athletically in Big 10 and I would say Matt has done pretty well so far.
