Offensive lineman commit

Always love to see the likes of Harvard and Yale on an offer list. No sweating this young man’s academic progress. Welcome to Boiler Country, Kyle!

Excellent news!!! Expected to play guard. Highest rated OL commit in 5 years (since Hedelin) according to 247 composite rating. Welcome!!!

Any chance if this kid enrolls early and works really hard he can get on the field next year

I think four of the five spots are spoken for next year

LT Hermanns
LG Mendez
C Beach
RG ???
RT McCann

Again that’s guessing, but steep uphill fight based on the four above and all the young guys that have had a few years to get big ten ready (Bramel, Stickford, Miller, McKenna, etc)

Have seen a bit about DJ Washington being ready to challenge for a starting spot

Welcome Aboard Kyle!

I think this is going to be a huge recruiting weekend for us!!
I couldn’t agree with you more! I think we will show up against Ohio State and display all of the growth we’ve gained from the slow start this year, learning how to fight, make adjustments during the game and open up the offense. I could be wrong, Ohio state is a very deep team but the most important thing in my mind as I believe in this coaching staff and their ability to ‘figure things out.’

The offensive line will be in decent shape next year so long as everybody can stay healthy. I love the addition here. He is a mauler with a mean streak. Great size and strength already. It won’t take much to get him in the rotation and he fills a big need. What a great pickup.

Also, McKenna is going to be a monster. He projects more as a tackle, but he is good enough that you find a way to get him on the field. Think he should be ready next year to at least provide depth.

Stickford was a project, but he has had enough time that he should be able to contribute. Definitely should be big and strong enough to play guard if needed.

The offensive line will have the biggest question mark next year. If they can shore that up, next year will be a good year. Especially if the young guys can step in and step up on defense. Players like Grant and GK should start immediately. Faucheux could step in early as well, though DT is a hard position to walk in and start right away because of the strength of the competition.

Not to be a party pooper, but I was hoping Brohm would be competing with other B10 programs for OL prospects. There's a reason this kid has the offer list he does of Ivy league, MAC and UK.

Minny and Pitt too.

So far, it feels like Brohm has been able to take low-rated Hazell-era O-line recruits and coach them up to solid blockers. This guy is a pretty serious prospect with some good offers and good skills. I think he'll be one piece in a solid O-line in a couple of years.

Forrest Lamp was a two star, 189 OT and 289 in the state of Florida. Highest drafted lineman in history for WKU, second round pick to the Chargers and was a beast for them.

Look, the linemen Purdue is getting now may or may not pan out, but I am very high on all of them. Craig is the one I know the least about.

Not saying he won't build into something, maybe he will, maybe he wont, but I question when we get any recruit that Ivy league schools were after. Obviously he's smart, but I'd rather have guys that other B10 schools were after and the Ivy schools never considered because they knew they had no shot.

You're looking at an outlier. If you look at all OL in the NFL, I would bet that 80+% come from Power 5 conference schools.

Less than half the big ten has more OL commits that are better than ours. Some he recruited early and did not have a chance to pick up big ten offers. We can’t compete with the blue bloods and Iowa and Wisconsin with their history. We should not settle for mediocrity but this is about as best as I could have hoped for. If we had landed Britt everyone would be singing a different tune.

He had a lot of the major schools showing interest, perhaps they didn’t because it wasn’t mutual. More to college than football

Iowa and Wisconsin are blue bloods? Since when?
And if you're going to say we 'can't compete' (which is a piss-poor, loser attitude), at least use schools like ND or OSU, not Wisky and Iowa.

I get tired of reading the comments we can't compete with other BIG10 and power 5 schools. If we can compete against the best schools for players at every other position, we should be able to compete for offensive linemen too. It's like saying Purdue basketball can't compete against power 5 schools for small forwards.

I said Blue Bloods AND wisky and Iowa. No they are not blue bloods but when it comes to recruiting OL they have such a history of developing good OL they have been successful in recruiting them. I expect with certain positions we will compete with OSU and ND (and we have) but would be delusional if we assume that across the board.

And you are ignoring what Brohm and his staff can do. Look at WKU players in the NFL before and after. Not to mention, Brohm pulled the offer from Hudson, a higher ranked OL and went and got Beach and Stickford. He doesn’t care about ranking, cares about what he sees and lineman are the hardest to predict.

Edit: To further that point, look at WKU’s success st letting people in the NFL compared to those with similar class rankings. WKU players are doing more than Purdue players in that time frame. Look at the current OL where they were ranked and what they are doing. He finds players with the base of what he wants to do and gets them to fit his system. As he continues to show he can put OL in the league, higher ranked ones will come.

Once again, you are making a false statement. At present we are only marginally better than IU, IL, MD. Even MN & RUT are rated higher on O-Line commits for 2019.

I like that we are taking at least 4 OL in each class. They don't all have to be studs. Some will develop and exceed, some will not, although the overall quality IS getting much better. 2 years from now the best 5 from the '17,'18,'19 classes will be your starters. There is going to be competition and depth in the OL room, probably the most since Tiller.

I'll be the first to admit I don't know much about the OL players who have committed. But, like I said, I'm sticking with my opinion that it's not a great sign if you signees other offers were non-Power 5 schools. Obviously, you can get these guys in the program and develop them (and so can every school), but presumably, guys other B10 schools are offering are developmentally/skillwise ahead of guys non-P5 schools are offering.
