I have other plans for tonight, so won't be following this game until perhaps late in the game. I want to think we win this game, but I have absolutely no faith in this team playing hard every game or the coaches to come up with a good game plan. I will still go with Purdue by 3 as we are by far the more talented team on paper.

Purdue up 50-39 at end of 3rd. That was a weird quarter. Northwestern couldn't make a shot forever. We were not much better, but at least a bit better.

I couldn’t even get through the first half. Just astonishing how bad they are - Swanson just jacks up the most ridiculous shots, no one can defend, and most don’t even seem interested. This program is not going to improve any time soon. And it’s not because of NIL!

Home from evening activities and watching a replay on BIG+ right now - at end of 3Q. Neither team looks competent, lots of sloppiness but NW more sloppy than Purdue. Least sloppy team wins I guess.

On another note, crowd looks very sparse. Smallest that I’ve noticed so far this season, but I’ve only watched maybe 4 or 5 games. Man, NW is bad … worse than Purdue, which is pretty awful to say.

4th Q —
Rashunda Jones - nice drive to the bucket with and 1. Looked good doing it too. Maybe there’s hope 😊. Layden and Swanson obviously feeling better today. Couple good plays there. And KP playing well.

Nice win. ‘Bout time. 😊

Nice win. 14 turnovers is still too many but it's an improvement. I think 9 or 10 were in the first half. So they cut them way down in the second half when they pulled away.

Kendall Puryear and Lana McCarthy both had good games. You can see Kendall Puryear's confidence growing from game to game.

Rashunda Jones is trying to do her best Braden Smith imitation. Stuffing the stat sheet. 14 points, 7 assists and 3 rebounds tonight after 13 points 5 assists and 7 rebounds last game. Probably the player I worry the most about transferring. Not only is she our best player who is really starting to come into her own. But she is also the player who I could see one of the big dogs making her a too good to refuse offer.

I agree with the person earlier who commented on Sophie Swanson's shot selection. She can attempt some of the dumbest shots at times. Her 2 reverse layup attempts were truly pathetic. No chance to go in. When she's squared up and in rhythm she's a decent shooter. But if she's trying to side step or step back....chances are good it's an airball. Quit trying to be Steph Curry and just take and make shots when you are open.

Nice to see McKenna Layden back out there but you could tell she was still a little weak from her illness.

Also nice to see Ella Collier actually be aggressive and look to score some.

Next game is in Bloomington on Saturday against a good IU team. But IU has laid a few eggs this season. They've been blown out and they have lost to some not so good teams. So they are not unbeatable. Beating IU would be the highlight of a bad season.

First, There is no bag man coming for Jones. She is too limited in what she does well. Until she adds a good pull up jumper and outside shot, she is just the best mediocre player on a very bad team.

Second, Sophie's shot selection is a reflection of coaching. She takes the shots she is encouraged to take b y our coaches because SOMEONE has to shoot, and far too often Collier and Lombard are passing up good shots so she takes mediocre ones or else its an endless string of shot clock violations.

Yeah, McKenna's stat line looks like someone that was still not 100% compared to her more recent games.

Collier is okay against the truly bad teams we play, but she is invisible in most of the games we play in conference. Bass is even worse lately.

IU is down from recent years, but are still head and shoulders above us. I expect a 15+ point loss, especially with IU on a two game losing streak on the road looking to get back in the win column and firm up an NCAA bid.

Interesting stat last night that Northwestern's Taylor Williams had 17 points and 16 rebounds, but she was only 3 of 9 from the foul line. Their team was also 3 of 9 as she was the only player to shoot foul shots. That is actually a big reason that added to our win. Not sure how many of those were the front of one and ones, but that shows me many empty positions for them with that stat.

We are the type of team IU is looking forward to playing on their home court this year. If we are in the turnover mode, they will smack us by 25+. If we handle the ball well, and shoot a decent percentage, we could make it a somewhat reasonable game. Maybe also, if we have someone get hot from the 3. If, If, If...

Jones' close relationship with the Reynolds sisters may help keep her here as she will be able to play the remainder of her career with all 3 as Mila's apparent redshirt year this year will keep her around for the next 2.

As it looks now - 11 players are slated to return next year with 8 returners and 3 incoming freshmen. Not 1 is slated to be a senior. I would suspect we add a grad transfer or 2 to shore that up - most likely on the perimeter.

I very much doubt all 8 return, Gearlds has not held onto everyone yet in herD1 career, and after this disaster of a season I actually expect 2-4 defections. Then CKG will bring in 4 more lame transfer seniors and the cycle keeps continuing.
