Local restaurant chain hiring at $18/hr minimum, bus boy wait staff, cooks a little higher. The last 2 applicants told the owner that works out $3 an hour when looked at $600/week or $15/hr. No thanks. Pretty logical to me.

Construction jobs....oh my gosh, that is work. No reason the explore that. 1000's remain unfilled in our area at even better pay.

My welfare queen niece gets $685/month EBT for 3 in the family. My research shows me that should be for 4 so she is somehow cheating or subverting the system. $75 allowance from each of 2 food banks. An extra $50+ in WIC food and formula. Adds up to about $1000 in eats. She eats better than we do. $230 Sec 8 housing is her only raw cost....2 bedroom apt. Free phone for her, $20 one time for oldest child. Medicaid. Other benefits. Why work?

We just hired our 150th employee last week, all college grads. I am happy to say no-one in my company earns less than 65k/annum. not much. Unlike OP, some of us actually feel joy, not jealousy, in watching other fellow humans do well, regardless of what choices they make.

And every single thing I have said about myself is absolutely true. If I gave my name and last name. simple google will show its true. yup purdue engineer with masters, yale med, yale mba, harvard residency, tech entrepreneur. and yes I am mid 30s. and I am black and came to america as a 16 year old immigrant. I reference my background when it's necessary to help people understand where I am coming from and see why I feel confident commenting on what I am commenting on a topic.
