No Luck in Indy

We parted ways with Peyton Manning for him. Hindsight is 20/20 and I realize that. Still a management misstep for all time.

Not really. Peyton was a near the end of the ride when he was cut loose. Yeah he got one more ring in Denver but the D won that one and Indy's wasn't in that class at that time. Luck would have been a great one if they had put a semblance of a line in front of him early on.

Former Boilers Blough and Etling will likely both be available, and each led their respective teams in rushing in last night's preseason games. TIC

Really. Your just wrong.

Luck was continually hurt and it took a toll. I'm sure he felt pressure about missing multiple games and letting his team down. Fact is he would have missed multiple games this season so he just made it official. Now the colts can move on.

And the dolts "fans" boo Luck as he leaves the field for the last time. Classy.
I read that on ESPN...who does that? ‘Your QB’ announces he is retiring due to what amounts to a form of depression and you boo? Loserville

Manning was anything BUT "near the end of the ride " when he left Indy. His first three years in Denver were three of the best four years he EVER HAD, statistically, in his career. The Broncos' D won the Super Bowl in his last year, strangely enough.

I mean the boos came from a state of shock. You see him on the sideline during a game, in his prime, during a year where they can win a super bowl, with alcohol probably in your system, he’s on the sideline, and then read the news on your phone or get a text about it. Did anyone really expect for everyone to get up and clap? Yea it sucks but most of those people will go home and understand the decision.

And a lot of those folks are season ticket holders who probably felt lied to by the Colts. Again.

Grigson would have had Peyton riding in an ambulance if he had stayed in Indy behind that joke of an O-Line.

The grigson era was one where the fans really were right (and so obviously) and the management was wrong. And by A LOT.

Screw you man, you arent in our shoes. Everyone reacts to this type of news differently. To some, myself included, it feels like a rushed decision made no matter what it does to all the people counting on him. He said he took 2 WEEKS to decide. This is not a freaking decision you make in two weeks.

I may feel differently tomorrow, but I definitely have a fair bit of anger right now.

I mean it’s weird to call out fans who boo about this yet media, the NFL, and owners make billions off dollars off those same fans. For people to be so invested to support these teams, shell out millions of dollars for cities to finance stadiums, there is a big investment both financially and emotionally into these trans and their success. I don’t think it’s its that weird that people boo. Without fans these guys make no money because billionaires wouldn’t own treats if they didn’t make money. Shit, there are many other jobs that people work that destroy their bodies and they are paid shit and companies don’t give s damn. Basically, it’s no big deal that the fans booed. I get it.

Removing emotion and sentimentality from it, that was the right call. However, given the short duration of Luck's career, in hindsight it wasn't worth it. I don't think those Colts teams from '12 to '15 could have won a Super Bowl even with Manning (whom I regard as the greatest QB of all time), but at least we wouldn't have had to "share his legacy" with Denver.

The Colts really need to work on how they manage injuries, or, at least, how they report them. This is the third time some "minor" issue ended up costing them a season in the middle of training camp (Manning's injury in '11, Luck's injury in '17, and now this).

~20 Seasons of Peyton Manning and Andrew Luck at QB, and the Colts could only parlay that into 1 Super Bowl victory and 2 appearances. I know the Patriots dynasty kind of skews that, but it's still disappointing (even more so than the Pacers' failure to win a championship during the Reggie Miller years while competing with the Bulls dynasty).

Agree. They weren't just booing Luck, but more the Colts and how this was handled IMO. This injury was way more serious than they let on in the Spring, and I understand being upset after shelling out a couple thousand dollars on a product that is potentially not what you were lead to believe you were signing up for.

If Luck can't get healthy I 100% understand why he wants to be done. He deserves respect on this decision, regardless of the timing, and it's unfortunate that was his last experience walking away from Lucas Oil.

I have no problem with someone retiring early. I do have an issue with doing it two weeks before the season starts. Too late to draft a qb; free agents came here to play with him; the entire offseason spent planning for him to be the qb. As Ballard said - he was fine when they win in Houston; and he played in the pro bowl. Shows up at camp with a sore calf and then quits.

So you would have no issue with Jeff Brohm “retiring” today?

This isn't that far off of a equivalent for Purdue fans. It's not like Luck ended last year injured. They went to the playoffs, things were finally getting on track. Then this injury happened, one that's been called 3 or 4 different injuries. I agree with others, this has been lingering for a while in his head. He left that team and fans high and dry. It's not like he's Big Ben or Gronk where he's been threatening retirement. This should have been done on Monday, not basically during the preseason game.

"After preparing and attempting to play this week, I've come to realize I am no longer capable of preparing myself physically and mentally ready to perform the required duties as an NFL QB. That is why after hard consideration and discussion I am sad to announce my retirement from the NFL

When I started this season I thought I would be able to perform at the levels expected by myself, coaches and fans. I've come to realize that is not the current situation and for that I'm sorry. Thanks to my teammates, coaches, the Irsay family, and fans for the support over my NFL career. I'm proud to have been part of the Colts Family"

Dude, relax. It's football. He decided he no longer wanted to play behind a horrible offensive line and continue to get hurt. I never was a believer in the hype train that brought Andrew Luck. But the dude deserves more than boos coming from fans after his efforts over the years. That's just sad and pathetic.

The Colts offensive line was one of the best in football last year. I think its been well documented that Luck was just as much at fault for his injuries as the offensive line. He holds onto the ball way too long. Matt Hasselback didn't get sacked nearly as often as Luck behind the exact same line. Why? Because he knew when to get rid of the football and how to move slightly enough to avoid pressure. Luck doesn't have very good pocket awareness. That more than anything is why he took the pounding he did.

I never expected Luck to have a long career in the NFL. He came from a fairly wealthy family attended schools in Europe growing up. Graduated top in his high school class. Academic All-American at Stanford majoring in like Architecture. Basically none of this screams “Hey I’m the type of person who’s willing to get curb stomped until my body’s broken.” Luck didn’t need football, he would have become a millionaire with out it. However, football did allow him to become a hundred millionaire before 30. Also I think I recently read he got married this year and maybe has a baby on the way, so all things considered it’s not all that shocking. Defensive Ends are scary people next hit could be the one that puts you in a wheelchair.

1. How many NFL Qb's have been put in a wheelchair after a hit by a DE?
2. The NFL has turned into flag football for QB's.

this point only underscores how extraordinarily difficult it is to win championships in professional sports.

There are elite athletes all over the varying leagues. For each sport, there's a march through playoffs in which anything can happen (and usually does).

Having a Reggie Miller/Peyton Manning/Andrew Luck only improves the likelihood you'll be in contention. Hells bells, focusing on QBs alone, look at all those that never got a ring (Marino, Kelly, et al). Drew Brees' march to the SB was magical, but who would've seriously thought he would win a ring... in New Orleans, of all places?

Re #2, get used to it.

If the NFL is going to survive, they're going to need to continue to focus on protecting players. All players.

Holy cow ... I was watching the Florida/Miami (NCAA) game last night, and a defensive player was flagged when a QB was barely touched while going out of bounds. The call was shameful, but that's where we are with that sport.

I think the targeting penalties, while mysterious at times, are a movement in the right direction.

A few months ago, during the 7 on 7 contests that were going on, I made a tongue-in-cheek comment of how that is the future of football. I hope we don't get to that point, but the sport attracts extremely aggressive and violent personalities, and understandably so. It's difficult to balance safe, aggressive play with rules intended to keep the players safe.

1. How many people would be willing to crushed by Kerrigan or balled stomped by Suh even after earning enough money to set their children up for life.
2. How many people would choose to train with the rigors required of a professional athlete and endure that travel schedule even after earning enough money to buy a small Caribbean island.

Uhh. Colts O-line was one of the best last season so not sure how that points make sense.

The Colts have given inaccurate injury info out so many times that I wouldn’t blame anyone for not believing this just came about this week. I really don’t care all that much, not a season ticket holder or even that big of an NFL fan anymore.
