The commitee is human - they follow polls. You get in the top 5 you probably won't get hosed as bad. Perception absolutely matters in the tourney.

if you consider the game against Chi st as counting, then the games against SIUE and Carrol should count as well. the y were the same level opponent. yo u can call the exhibition games and the WUG anything you want, but to the players and coaches, they counted. and this board would have burned down if we lost the exhibition game against Carrol. when a boilermaker player puts on a Purdue jersey, it counts!

We haven't won a significant game this season. Last season was over in March. We get no respect because when we have an opportunity to win a big game, we most often do not. I don't really care about the polls. They are subjective. KenPom and RPI are more meaningful in my opinion. We have a good team this year, but until we beat one of the big boys, we won't get the respect we want. Having said all of that, Seth Davis is a douche and I hope ESPN goes belly up.
Just keep winning, baby. If Purdue wins the games they SHOULD win (not just the games the so-called experts predict), then they will be ranked in the top 4 and a #1 seed in the NCAA tourney.
I can't stand Seth Davis. He has always been down on Purdue for as long as I can remember. 24th? come-on man! We are already under-rated at #20. I think we are in for a good year. We may have some disappointments along the way, a few games we should win, but don't; but in the end I think we will be in for something special. I don't see how Minnesota and NW can be ranked ahead of us, but whatever the so-called experts want to think. You can book it - no way Minnesota or NW finish ahead of us in the Big Ten standings at the end of the year!

It matters in the end in the NCAA seeding. It is a big deal. When you start under ranked you have to work your way up. When you start out #2 for example, you have a head start so to speak. Then you get the better seed in the tourney and an easier path. That's why it matters.
So then by default we should be top ten? You're proving my point. It's completely subjective right now. Stupid to bash someone for thinking we may not be top ten worthy at this point. It's just a matter of opinion. If we win tonight and go down and take Atlantis next week, then we can talk about what we've accomplished and how it stacks up. I am not complaining about where he has us ranked, I think if someone is making a living being a so called expert ,then they should at least know what is going on. What I think is stupid is some defending the lazy bastard.
Initial ranking has little to no impact on final ranking for power conference schools. So many games are played over 4 months that teams will pretty much find their level. If we go undefeated in the non-conference for example, we will be ranked in the top 5 in January whether we started at 10 or 20 or 30. Also poll rankings have miniscule-to-zero effect on tournament seeding.
Now a small school that starts unranked will have a long road because they get so few chances to 'prove' how good they are.
