...per CBSSports.com. The women now get 5 Fouls per quarter before shooting free throws. Guessing it will be the same in NIT. An attempt to cut down on free throws while making more advertising $$$???

NIT to Play 10 Minute Quarters

NIT is still playing 2 twenty min. halfs. They are resetting the fouls at 10 min. segments and 5 will result in 2 shots. The 1 & 1 is gone. Hate quarters and hate this change as well. LEAVE THE GAME ALONE
Good idea to test this concept when no one is watching.
During the first season of quarter basketball, I believe women's teams only averaged about 1 fewer FT per game than the last season of halves. I think the bigger impact is flow and avoiding halves where teams are in the bonus for 10+ mins straight.
I didn't expect to be a fan, but I have enjoyed the change so far with the women. However, I'd like to see the men try it out in preseason tournaments in addition to the NIT before getting totally on board.
What I don't look forward to: 2 more end of half/quarter possessions where teams dribble out the clock & throw up a contested three at the buzzer.

I agree about the 1 and 1 and feel it should stay. I'd much rather they retrain the refs to call consistent halves instead of getting foul after foul at the end of the game because they don't have the guts to attempt to make the correct call and instead just start calling everything a foul.
IU would be a lock to win the NIT if they did so since they can outscore anyone 10 minutes at a time. Just can't hold the lead during the second 10 minutes.
I don't see this changing that. Getting to the line sooner will offset the resetting of fouls.
