Rivals just ranked him in what is probably the final 2022 rankings #105 and a 5.9 4*.

Here is a article on the All-American Bowl 2 weeks ago, he was noted as the best defensive player on the West in a 34-14 victory for the West.

Seems complimentary to Strickland and maybe will even push Jenkins for some playing time as a true freshman. If he is GK caliber right now it will be hard to keep him off the field. There was some speculation Strickland could even slide inside to the 3 technique.

There were comments from the AA practices that Caraway held the edge well and held up inside too. Wonder if he competes with Strickland for PT behind Sullivan

We usually don't get too many bump ups at the end of the season. Nice to see it happen.

Congrats to him on the recognition, and congrats to the coaching staff for finding him before he blew up. Excited to see him play.

Hopefully they will meet with @BCfanatic2020 ’s approval.
Interesting take? Sorry for being realistic ..

I’m sorry, I love the toughness of Sullivan .. but this defense was just a defense that didn’t need to rush more than four to pressure the QB.. against anyone. If you lose a karlaftis and you don’t have someone else either become a massive threat.. or have a better replacement than what we are looking at, you’re headed down a dark path. Unless.. Sullivan is just a lot better than he looks and we haven’t seen it yet. That happens sometimes.

Nah I was just messing with you.

Ridiculous how much talent there is in that state. TAMU and UT both signed top 5 classes and didn’t offer him.
And he's from Bryan, which sort of blends together with College Station, like Lafayatte, and West Lafayette, minus the river in between.

I noticed in the article that Popeye Williams, who is from Westfield, moved up to a 4 star also. He signed with U of L.

With as much trouble as their athletic program is having right now, did we not go after him or how did we miss out on getting him too? It would have been nice to have bookends, like we used to have during the Tiller years.

Im not sure the reason, but I believe he was a Louisville lock pretty much from the get go

Got a 247 bump as well to #185 in the top247 and a 93 rating. Now our 2nd best composite recruit behind Brady Allen.

he was actually considered a penn state lock for a while.

He was barely recruited until Hagen got here. He seemed to like Hagen and briefly it looked like we had a chance.

I think there’s something very important that shouldn’t be missed.

I’ve been following Purdue since I enrolled in 1998. I’m not sure we’ve gotten one guy as sought after as George karlaftis during that time. David bell great. Stu, Orton, for sure. Heck selwyn Lymon. But iirc Clemson was snooping around west Lafayette and we got George.

so, when you get a guy like George that you probably wouldn’t have gotten if he was from Ohio .. like ever.. and that you may not be getting again anytime soon.. what do you HAVE to do when he absolutely maxes his potential?

exactly what brohm did, which is all you can do at a school like Purdue. We may have broadcasters saying “look, caraway and Strickland are not George karlaftis. Almost no one. But the fall after George left for the pros … you parlay that into two guys who were as sought after as Strickland and caraway? That’s all you can do.”

same with Yanni or Marvin grant or cam Allen or Cory trice.. guys who change the level of player who can see himself doing what he wants to do for himself … at Purdue.

Stu was a recruit on par with GK.

Agree that Stu probably comes closest. But I think BC is right that Karlaftis was a game-changing recruit. He, Rondale, and Bell made it exciting o be Boilermakers again, and that has opened the gates for more recent recruits.

Stu was a recruit on par with GK.
So national championship programs were making stu a priority? I’m just asking.. I wasn’t following in 1999.

so take stu.. an all American. We got pollard while he was here. It was a while after that before we got another player like pollard right? Whereas George is departing and you have Caraway and Strickland coming in. Well done by these coaches

Michigan was coming off the 98 championship and wanted him. Stu was the reason Lloyd came into indiana to take a top player away every year.

And I think only parlaying moore into Sheffield and Burks in the slot is a loss.. but you can’t win them all and brohm is winning a lot more than losing

Moore is the reason we got Bell.
I get it. Not the same position though. When someone performs like moore in the slot, you’d like to think you can get much better than Sheffield and Burks in the slot.. because elite receivers of that size look and say “if rondale moore can be rondale moore at Purdue, I can do whatever I want there too.”

that said, so no one thinks I’m being a negative Nancy.. when you look at the outside receivers and defensive ends we’ve brought in, the conversion of those positions have been a win

Stu was a solid 4-star recruit. I don't recall all the programs who offered, but the kid was an absolute stud in HS. Played QB in an option offense, was top 100 player as a DB.

In HS, he beat Charles Rogers for the state title in the 100 meter.

Getting Stu was HUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGE.

Also, if memory serves, Pollard was a 3-star recruit coming out of HS, although he did get an offer from Meatchicken.

Yeah not downing stu.. but I just feel like it’s not quite the impact of a guy who comes in at a position where true freshman rarely even play .. then is a force from day one. A guy who will probably go top 15. You aren’t gonna get that guy again next year .. but at the very least you can do what the coaches did and parlay it into a couple nice incoming freshmen.

no player I can recall has come in and been the force George is. And people can say David.. yeah, great player, but this is a pass happy offense. George came in and lifted Notre dame right tackles off the ground and parked them in the QBs lap. As a physical force .. you probably have to go back to Rod Woodson to beat George here at Purdue. Then, unlike stu, Orton and others.. the coaches went out and turned it into quick results in recruiting.

Again, none of this is meant to be a knock on anyone … I’m actually giving props
