Trying hard to turn college hoops into the NBA. when it finally gets done it will be a sad day. I've tried watching the NBA. It is basically unwatchable: limited defense, star treatment, etc.

Pretty unfair analysis. I'm not a huge fan of the NBA beyond watching teams I root for, but the college game isn't close to the NBA and the thought they don't play defense is just not true. 50 years ago the same claim was made and Havlicek said "the average college player wouldn't be able to get a shot off in the NBA." Truth is they are just that good offensively.

I think the OP is trying to say things like getting rid of the 5 second call, extending the arc, etc., heavily favor the offense. They are trying to take the advantage away from the defense and get those 1 on 1 matchups that the NBA does seem to love. However, it rule changes in this spirit gave rise to the monster Octeus dunk this year.

One of the reasons that the NBA has one on one matchups is because almost every player on the floor can score the basketball. That's not true at the college level. If you can spread the floor with shooters, then the natural result, college or pro, is going to be one on one matchups and more scoring.

While there is certainly defense in the NBA, I think overall in the NBA, the effort certainly isn't there every night - which makes it appear there's not a lot of defense being played (and it shows up more on defense than offense). Whether it's realistic to expect them to play intense defense playing every other night half of the year - that's obviously another issue.

That being said, I don't get the crusade to tinker with college basketball so much. It seems like every year now there's some major changes. Does a sport over 100 years old need this many changes every year? It's absurd keeping up with them (and it's not just basketball, football is getting to be the same). It's almost like they're changing things to change things.

Next season, they are having 6 fouls in the postseason non-NCAA tournament games - if college basketball goes to 6 fouls, that'll be absurd.

If you are arguing that 82 games is too many then I agree. I just don't agree that no defense is played because that is a long running myth.
