New recruit

Good to see interest in some higher rated players Purdue has offered. Yah I realize the ratings and stars are just that and they may actually not perform any better than others at the next level. He was offered in July of ‘24. Looks like a good player and athleticism in his family since his dad had a professional career. Seems to be increasing interest from guys offered in the 2026 class… Bass, Bo Ogden, Talen Kinney, Trey Thompson and Steven Reynolds all taking visits… I just think its fun tracking interest and the recruiting of potential Boilers!

Totally agree. Assuming 2025 class is closed unless there is a diamond in the rough and late offer situation. Feel like Painter will use extra spots for some veteran transfers.

Probably need to start a thread again on 2026 recruits

You keep hearing recruits talk about our 'family' like program, winning tradition, atmosphere, and great coaches. I hope this helps land a few of these highly rated players.....fingers crossed.

We’ll have some potential “cap space” freed up in 2026.

So help me with this. I know in football they eliminated the roster size, right? Didn't something similar happen with basketball?

Men’s basketball roster size is going to a limit of 15 counting scholarship players and walk ons. All 15 can be scholarship players.
That’s right. Curious to see what type of turnover we will have at the end of the season.

I don’t like to speculate but Furst for sure and wouldn’t be shocked of 1 or 2 others.

Does he have an offer? A quick look at his X feed shows offers by Ball State, IU Indy and Coastal Carolina.
It doesn’t appear that we have extended an offer YET.? Purdue has offered a fairly large list of what looks to be a list of highly rated players

Do I understand correctly that the total roster size can only be 15? Don’t we currently have 3-4 walkons? What happens to them? Do you just say, thanks for the memories? And say sorry, you are no longer on the team?

That is an unfortunate byproduct of the NCAA rule change. Walk-ons are going to be a thing of the past.
I wonder if that's necessarily going to be true. Long term, where is the value in giving out 15 scholarships? Especially at a place like Purdue that only goes 9-10 deep with regularity. The 15th scholarship is going to go to a kid that won't play. Ever. So why not continue with the walk-on route? You're effectively wasting a scholarship for someone like that. Walk-ons serve a great purpose in college sports and I hate to see it expire.

I think you'll see most schools hold 1 or 2 scholarships back for a late transfer add so it's possible they'll give those to a walk-on but the issue is situations will change annually. A guy might get a scholarship his sophomore year but they might give it away his junior year.

Will scout teams be a thing? That's where you may end up finding these guys. But they won't be able to dress if on the scout team.

Walk on existed because of a cap of 12 scholarships. Now that you have 3 extra scholarships you can now offer kids that should be better than a typical walk on. In theory that is.

Can he dribble-drive to the basket and/or create his own shot?
Yes. He said the staff has been telling him they want to use him like Ivey. He said he wants to go to a program that wins. And between us, LSU and UCF…we have them beat. Would be amazing if he committed, but if wager he goes to his dad’s Alma mater—LSU.

So with our current team and walk ons we have more than 15 but I believe the rules state only -5 can dress for each individual game. Is that correct, can someone please better educate me?
If that’s the case different players could be active for different games I guess 🤷🏼‍♂️
