New Rankings

But Mike did play the 3 with Cardinal at the 4 and McQuay at the 5.

Gillis could be a great 3 for Purdue.
No, he couldn't.
Apparently you missed the NCAA's where Mason (and Brandon) DID NOT WANT THE BALL against any pressure.
That is NOT a 3.
And that's completely ignoring that defense IS HALF THE GAME!!!
Mason could not guard over 50% of the 3's we play.
They would roast him.
Try a clue.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. Some of you posters are so rude.
I don't condone rudeness (although I certainly fall into that category sometimes), but when folks keep posting the same thing without expressing rationale or ignoring clear gaps in their logic, people are going to get irritable.

Gillis can shoot (particularly when he's healthy), is a strong rebounder, is tough as hell and has gotten better at finishing at the rim. He can put the ball on the floor to get to a pull up when defenders close out too hard at the three point line but he doesn't have tight handles the way that a three needs to (neither did Brandon Newman). He's a good team defender but is not quick enough or long enough to be a disruptive perimeter defender. I get the rationale for wanting him to play some three, particularly if Zach is back and there's a crowd at the 4 and 5, but I think the stretch 4 plays better to his strengths and allows MP to go with quicker, longer and more athletic options at the 3.

Try treating another Purdue fan and human being with respect.

I am entitled to my opinion, too. If your opinion is correct, Gillis

should be playing at Ball State. A 6'6'' power forward is not getting

Purdue to the Final Four. Kaufman-Renn and Furst both give us a

better chance at the 4. I wouldn't mind a new coach either.
Sorry, even butthurt people are entitled to their misguided opinion. ;)

Show me 3 other 3's built like Mason Gillis? The kid is 230lbs of rock muscle. and you expect him to chase swingmen around? Not..
TKR, Furst and Gillis already there, but you want to see Heide play the 4...... hmmmm
Right! Gillis is not a 3 and no way Heide plays the 4, although i wouldn't be opposed to it on occasion.

I believe Colvin played in the AI top 50 All Star game yesterday on CBS SportsNet. Did anyone watch it and report how he did?

Maybe Gillis is to small to play power forward maybe but what he brings to the court every day come on man coach painter has to play Gillis he has to but trey has to play the 4 next year

My guess is that Heide starts at the three. If he hadn’t had the injury setback, I think there’s a good chance that he would have started last year. I think he’ll be that big, physical, athletic, scoring wing that Purdue has often been missing.

Watch out for Mr. Heide.

Daymond Green is 6'6 below-the-rim player without particularly good handles who plays center for GSW and played 4/5 for the Spartans.

What he possesses is grit, shooting and basketball IQ. Ultimate glue guy. Reminds me of Mason.

What do you expect me to say to this? Gillis is a 4, isn't he?
The problem with your logic is that today's basketball isn't what it was in the 1990s or 2000s. The term "power forward" is hardly even used anymore. Gillis is what we now call a "stretch 4," a guy that will bang inside but can step out and shoot a jumper or even a 3. Are we running inside sets for Gillis? No, especially when we have Edey in there. But Gillis has the ability to spread the floor from the 4-spot, opening up some breathing room for Zach.

Today's basketball lineups, to a large degree, involve 3 wings and 2 bigs, and even the bigs need to shoot jumpers. It's a faster game than it was before. Mason can run the floor from the 4-spot, but the one thing I don't want him doing is guarding 3s in the open floor. He's just not quick enough for that part of the game.

These are my opinions. Take them or leave them.

And my opinion is that Purdue will never make a Final Four

with a 6'6'' power forward.
Florida Atlantic's starting 5 against San Diego State (in the Final 4):

Alijah Martin 6-2
Johnell Davis 6-4
Nick Boyd 6-3
Bryan Greenlee 6-0
Vladislav Goldin 7-1

San Diego State's starting 5 against Florida Atlantic:

Darrion Trammell 5-10
Lamont Butler 6-2
Matt Bradley 6-4
Keshad Johnson 6-7 (210)
Nathan Mensah 6-10

TKR at the 4 and Furst at the 5.
You really don't understand the modern game do you? You want to nitpick individual stats and specs without understanding the blending of talent and skills it takes to win basketball games at any level, not just Division 1. You need to do more research on this and get a better handle on how today's game is played before spouting stupid stuff like :
"And my opinion is that Purdue will never make a Final Four with a 6'6'' power forward".

Your ruin-every-thread approach is really demonstrating your ignorance and poor knowledge of the game and putting all that mental and emotional weakness on full display. I feel sorry for you except that I am not sure you are a real Purdue fan, given the way you troll every thread and every positive post.

Like I said, do yourself a favor and put your anti-Painter engines on idle for a while. Nobody is buying your sh!t.
