New Idea for Shout!

I am not a huge fan of the Shout routine. I think the song it's self is over played and not that great to begin with. However I do like the concept of getting Purdue Alumni involved in a public way.

1. I would like to keep having an Alumni or other important person addressing the crowd.

2. I think the start of the 4th quarter is not the best time for it, especially with how well the team currently plays. I think it could be utilized better if it was used to start the second half. Have the team take the field and then do shout and then the kickoff.

What does the board think?

(PS only a few more days then we can have actual football stuff to talk about on here)

I like the tradition but the song is tired and stale. We are rebuilding the program so why not rebuild the song with something cool

IMO, if the students are still into it keep it....if not until something better comes along fine, lose it! I worry about what different alum's might say unless they are great public speakers....for example some of the guest singers at Wrigley really bomb and the crowd reacts to it!

When Worlds Collide is Purdue's song...period. The shout thing is contrived and stupid. Literally, nobody I know likes it but feels kind of obligated to do it when Jeff Zganina, or Joe Tiller, or Brees, etc. is imploring you to "get up" even though it's 42-13 bad guys heading into the fourth.

GS

I also have an idea for Shout. Let's field a competitive football team so the stadium isn't half empty at kickoff and 3/4 empty to start the 4th quarter.

I do not like the "have a random 'celebrity' hang out of the press box and awkwardly wave a flag" look.

This a corn, contrived 'tradition' that has no reflection of Purdue. Many people say well Wisconsin has a song they play at the end of the 3rd quarter too! Well, Wisconsin's student section is about much more than just Jump Around. They have several traditions, including songs with dances and singing, that they do throughout the game, in addition to the 5th quarter tradition.

So Purdue is basically performing a cheap knockoff of a portion of what Wisconsin's tradition is.

Not to mention, throughout this period of time, Purdue has tried and failed to destroy and create new traditions. The epic fail of the new pre-game marching band introducing chants and such was a complete embarrassment and was scrapped quickly. The revamped Purdue Pete was an epic fail.

When's the last time Purdue "nailed" a marketing gimmick?
