This coaching hire should be predicated on whether Purdue wants to be a serious contender in a Major Conference or settle for Mid-Tier Conference. If we hire a no-name assistant or HC from a Mid-Tier, then we shouldn't have serious expectations to recruit and compete in a Major Conference. The only thing a no-name assistant/Mid-Tier HC gets us is 3 more seasons of lousy football and another expensive buy-out. When our AD thinks about salary to attract a "name" coach, I hope he takes this into consideration.

Alright. Go ahead and give us a list of P5 universities that we could poach their HC from...o_O

Money talks - we have the money, not the will to invest it.
There's a lot more to competing in the B1G than just blowing money on a "name" coach. We need commitment from university leadership to support a coach with facilities and assistants, and to keep up! Minnie is serious about football but they didn't put all their chips on a high profile coach. Our new football complex should have been built 5 years ago, but mb1, bot, and Cordova didn't care! Why should any believe we're actually committed now? Because we finally built something that only catches us up with the bottom of the league?

30-10 record, Top 10 offense, and back-to-back conference titles don't excite you?

Spend $5M/yr on Les Miles at age 63?

What is your solution, genius?

SD - I don't consider a guy who wins back to back conference titles just a "Mid-Tier" coach. Look, this is one topic that almost everyone hopes that their choice is picked but if they're not we hope the other guy makes us eat crow. The guy does have a couple of criteria I wanted including Pro QB experience and runs a QB oriented, aggressive style of offense and smart defense.

We were always going to hire a Fleck, Brohm, Taggart or Rhule type.

What successful P5 coach is going to leave his team in general? And then take it a step further...for a bad Purdue team?

We have to hire from the pool of up and comers. P5 Teams that have somebody worth keeping will generally pony up and pay them. How often do you see P5 coaches job hop to another P5 job? I truly can't think of many.

Well, we could have hired an NFL coach like Michigan and Alabama did!

Get me Jon Harbaugh on the phone STAT!

So you like Brohm? Every great P5 coach out there was a lower level guy somewhere we never heard of first. Not sure how else to go about it other than stealing Saban away from Alabama while keeping Urban Meyer on the string as our plan B. Is that what you meant? Of course not, your not an idiot. So who did you have in mind?
