We've got to get out of ND. No reason whatsoever to be playing them. Once you get out of that, start working on dropping UNC and even Wake. Then get rid of the trip to TCU. Once that is all done, for the love of god, get Ole Miss off the schedule.

Loser mentality. If we can’t compete with these teams we should move to D2 football
i'd rather have a win than some more of what you call quality losses against good teams. Look at Bloomington this year. they had an easy schedule, but a lot of happy fans and they sold a lot of tickets they don't usually sell and they even made the playoffs with their soft schedule. winning means bowl games. losing against tough teams means firing the coach, and all of our good players leave, and starting over. I'm tired of starting over. let's be honest, good recruits don't sign to play for losing teanms. . nobody likes a losing team no matter who the opponent is. look at alabama and OSU. their non conference schedule is against puds. if you want to see some tough opponents, we have enough already in the Big 10.
You guys are all nuts. We do not need to be doing this. Right now we are sitting here as the worst P4 grogram in America and you want to sign up for even more Ls? We are in an 18 team super league, that schedule is enough. It’s almost like you didn’t watch this past season. And I’ll tell you another thing, the winningest coach in our history would agree with me.
I saw an article heading yesterday, didn’t read it and didn’t know what it meant at that time, that Nebraska was following the IU formula to get to the CFP. Not joking.
I do think these games end up being bought out at some point but not because we are wusses like you.
I think soon there will be a BIG/SEC type challenge every year and ESPN will do the same with the ACC and BIG12 so teams will have to open up games.
Saying we should cancel these games because Walters couldn’t make us competitive is weak. We’ll immediately be significantly better because of coaching, scheming, etc.
Question: Do you think competition breeds success? Meaning playing tougher teams will make Purdue a better team in the long run?
If you answer yes to either question, there's no reason to get out of playing Notre Dame this year. Why, so we can play Ferris State and be 4-8 instead of 3-9? And get nothing productive long-term out of winning the game?
I’m good with 1 competitive game and 2 gimmes, along with the 9 conference games.
Iu got rewarded for it and mainly the sec schools openly complained about it to the media. Purdue had a brutal schedule last year. Had we had a decent coach we may have won a game or two more and been more competitive week to week but we werent going to sniff a bowl game. It really doesnt make sense for a school like purdue to play a tough non conference schedule. B10 is loaded and its going to be tough to get to six wins with a tough out of conference schedule.

it works. Especially if they expand to a 16 team playoff, you only need to be a top 20 team (you'll get preference over better teams from smaller conferences). The BT and the SEC met last week to discuss getting a MINIMUM of 4 each teams from their conference. The more, the $merrier$.
Remember when players came to Purdue so they could play ND, Mich and OH St.?
Why don't we just move to the MAC so we can play chumps and get paid to play two tough games a season....
If you can be somewhat competitive you will improve. You don't get better getting beaten 66 to 7.
Buy them all out. Couldn’t care less about any of those teams. We already a national powerhouse schedule in conference.
It’s not a loser mentality. Nebraska has always done this even when they were a big time program. Even then they’d want to gear up for one or two bigs then hide out. Their one or two big wins from 1983 are on our big ten schedule.
Michigan just gave a QB transfer ten million. When Purdue is rolling with that kind of money, and they are on an even playing field, by all means; have balls. Right now it’s just stupidity.
You hated Walters and I presume like Odom. If Odom does a great job instilling toughness, which I think he will do, and gets us to 6-6… we will be mocked outside of it at least not being as bad as one of the worst coaches ever. When Notre dame clowns us, at the halftime show, we will be called purdont by people who should be ashamed of doing that on a halftime show, but arent.
If you are Indiana and you hide out to manage perception, because that is what easy scheduling is, and you go 10-2 or 9-3 and the 10 or 9 had mostly meh teams, and someone brings that up.. pay close attention. These studio shows always have someone who spazzes the f out and yells “you can’t say that! 9 wins is 9 wins! That’s a 9 win team.”
The sport is covered incorrectly.
When Nebraska wins 8 games and you have studio shows showing that based on a low strength of schedule, their estimated adjusted win total is more like 5.71, then yes… go schedule the way Purdue does.
“Hey, Barry odom’s Purdue team might have been 5-7, but based on their ‘we play anybody anywhere’ scheduling mentality they have an adjusted expected win rate of 7.25-4.75, the biggest differential in college football.”
But that’s not what happens. One guy will say that Odom has the team playing much tougher than Walters did, then here comes some clown like “nope! 5-7 sucks. Hashtag sucks. Follow me.”
I agree with a lot of this.
The main problem, in my opinion, is that unlike basketball schedules, these football schedules are contracted a decade out. We have no idea what our program will look like 3 years from now, let alone 8 or 10.
I would hate to spend money buying out games, when that same money could be used on buying better players.
That's also the way that Notre Dame got into the CFP. ND played only one team in the final Top 25 ranking: #19 Army. The CFP selection coimmittee is brain-dead to strength of schedule. The smart thing to do is to water down the schedule as much as possible. Another example is USC, which has refused to schedule ND past 2026. That annual rivalry is ending.
I think we do. Purdue isn’t going to ever pay huge money like the power programs. Not in football.
I agree with the idea that Purdue could be playing 8-4 quality football pre-NIL if Odom does a kick ass job. Walters really was that bad. But I’d hate to see our schedules lead what would have been a 8-4 team pre NIL into 6-6 or 5-7.
If outside of the P2 they struggle with revenue sharing, I could see us being 8-4 pretty easily.
