NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament

It seemed on the ESPN selection show that there was a lot of respect for Purdue, even interviewing Coach Shondell (but misspelling his name as "Shondelle" on the on-screem label - sigh). They mentioned the discouraging (to me) loss to Nebraska on Sat evening but said they were still one of the "hottest" teams in the nation and that Purdue's seeding reflected that despite the loss.

It was interesting to me that Coach Shondell briefly said in his interview that his team was "very tired" by the time they got to that game - from the blow-out the day before against IU? Or from the whole season? Nebraska and all their blond/platinum haired players always seem to be tough for us. But I like their coach (John Cook) and wish them the best until (and if) we play them again in the semi-finals.

In our bracket, before facing us Pitt will probably have to beat Penn State and #14 Creighton while Purdue, unless upset, will probably have to beat #11 BYU. We should be able to do that.

Yea Doc, I thought the same thing. Purdue got a really good draw, I figured they were going to 7-8 after the Nebraska loss. Still will be tough but I think it’s Louisville and Texas followed by the rest. If Pitt were to get upset by Penn State and Purdue moves on would the Boilers be the Sweet 16 hosts?

I would also factor in the emotional week I'm sure it has been for Coach Shondell and his family and, by extension, the team.

I don't know the answer to that. Maybe someone else does.

Sort of an interesting question, it could happen although it probably doesn’t. I do know this, in a state rivalry game with all Penn States tradition that’s a tough 2nd round opponent for a #3 overall seed.

That one player from NebrAska has to be stopped. She killed us this time, but
We beat them before.

Purdue lost to them both times this year, can’t believe that Nebraska didn’t make the top 16 field. They’re a top 10 team, they lost early because there too player was out due to an injury. Purdue got a helluve seed.

Actually they got seeded #10.

To me, this was a puzzling statement by Coach Shondell. No way our team could have been as physically tired as Nebraska who played Wisconsin on Friday night then had to travel to Purdue for the Saturday match. Honestly I thought it was a bad loss for us, the team seemed to be a step out of sync, and struggling to find traction.
It may indeed have been the impact of the coach’s father’s death, which I’m sure affected the team and the staff very heavily.
A snarky Nebraska fan tossed a little shade at Purdue on a Twitter post saying if any team had a claim to be tired it was Nebraska (citing their Fri opponent and travel). Can’t argue….
But we have a good draw and need to capitalize! I hope Coach Dave and John are buoyed by the outpouring of support from across the Volleyball world, and despite sad circumstances can enjoy this post-season.
