Even if they win a lot of their remaining games, I just don't see them making the NCAA. Wouldn't complain about them knocking off Wisconsin and Maryland to make it to the NCAAT though.
If they close out 8-2 or even 7-3 (certainly possible) with a win (or wins) over WI and/or MD (not Purdue in the rematch), they'll be 12-6 or 11-7 in the B1G, 20-11 or 19-12 and probably top 30-40 in the computer rankings (currently #52 in Kenpom and #41 in RPI). That should be good enough to get them in, especially considering the Committee's likely take on Izzo's history of over-performing in the tournament and their desire to show-off stars like Bridges on the big stage. I'll be more surprised if that team is in the NIT and not the NCAA.
I'd still be surprised to see Michigan State miss the NCAA field. Also, you never know how it will play out, but with the way the conference is this year, it's plausible you could see a surprise auto-bid from the Big Ten as well after the BTT.
Lunardi had them as a 7 seed in his latest bracketology. No, that is not a typo. 2 seeds behind Wisconsin and Purdue, 1 seed AHEAD of Northwestern and Minnesota.
Really depends how they finish down the stretch. They have work to do. Last night was a game Izzo really wanted and you could see the desperation from him as the game slipped away and in the presser. If they finish at least 11-7 in conference I think they are in. 10-8 and they are on the bubble.
MSU athletic director is chairman this year. I know, I know they leave the room blah blah but to think the other members aren't influenced by that seems naive.
