Agree, but they did not look very good. Maybe Izzo is coasting toward retirement? I know they will pick it up, but they did not look to have the horses, even with all those high-rated recruits.Sparty always get better as the year goes on, it happens every year
Cmon now. Izzo isnāt coasting toward retirement. Iām sure they did not have an enjoyable practice after that game.Agree, but they did not look very good. Maybe Izzo is coasting toward retirement? They wonāt be the team that played the other night, but I do think theyāll be about the team they were last year. Not the #4 team in the nation. Just my thoughts.Cmon now. Izzo isnāt coasting toward retirement. Iām sure they did not have an enjoyable practice after that game.
They will have it together by end of season. But Coen Carr looks legit and is a walking highlight reelākid double clutched and dunked itā¦after taking off from the FT line. As a team, they shot 1-20 from 3, which wonāt happen again and their 3 headed monster at guard were 0-13 from 3. Itās one game. Theyāll be fine.
Every coach reaches their twilight years. Izzo may not be coasting, but he may be on the downside of his abilities and is not the coach he was 10 years ago.Cmon now. Izzo isnāt coasting toward retirement. Iām sure they did not have an enjoyable practice after that game.

Colvin is going to be good. No doubt about it, but......I feel like the current environment where everyone is competing for playing time may be ideal for achieving that result. Colvin is in a challenging spot as a true freshman where he has to learn the Purdue offense and defense. In this environment, he is being told exactly what he needs to work on to earn more minutes which should be a great motivator to focus on the little things that will make him a player that Painter can trust in March.
Some coaches win by keeping things very simple and throwing out their young stars to play through their mistakes. Painter demands a lot more than that. It is frustrating because we all want the most talented players to be on the court, but I really believe that in the end the system will be a large part of what allows Purdue to compete with more talented rosters when it all comes together. I do think that Colvin is going to have a place in the rotation in March, but he is going to earn that role by playing in the system and earning Painterās trust.
Its not just one game. We bring back our top 6 or 7 guys from a team that easily won the B1G. We added a few pieces in the back court that may or may not be an improvement from last year. I tend to think it will be a slight upgrade. But those guys are going to improve the team around the margins. They are not relied on as key pieces (at least as far as winning the B1G). In my mind the only "fear" I had was that other teams in the B1G would have improved significantly from what was exposed as a really weak B1G last year. After watching a few games, I'm not buying it.After 1 game, yes Purdue looks to be above the others, but letās pump the brakes a bit. Itās one game and letās just hope we arenāt playing our best ball right now and then everyone catches up in 2024. I donāt mind if we lose the B1Gā¦I want to see that we are playing our best ball in mid Feb and continue into March.
Colvin is going to be good. No doubt about it, but......
Right now, he doesn't seem eager to embrace the physicality of the college game. He's young and fairly thin so I get it, but he doesn't seem as aggressive as the other guys competing for minutes at the three.
Veryyyyy early in the season. We should be really good but hopefully we get better throughout the seasonā¦as other teams in the B1G will. Sparty will figure it out, they always do. Maryland and Illinois willIts not just one game. We bring back our top 6 or 7 guys from a team that easily won the B1G. I guess my assessment wasn't based on the improved play by Purdue after 1 game, it's more of a condemnation of the other B1G teams I've seen play. Purdue will lose some games in and out of the B1G but I'll be shocked and disappointed if we don't win the B1G whatever combination of players Painter chooses to rely on. Only an injury to Edey would change my expectations and even then I believe we would be an upper tier B1G team.
As a DC-area Boilermaker, I NEED a win at Xfinity over those damn turtles! š±Donāt forget about Maryland. Could see them being a dark horse to win the conf
Agree. My perceived lack of aggression may be a function of the game moving pretty quickly for him and having a lot to learn. Sometimes when we think too much it makes us a little more tentative. He's certainly not afraid to shoot the three but that may be where he's most comfortable.Could be? But I don't know if we have a large enough sample size of gametime to say anything definite about MC or H yet?? Fun to watch these newbies and speculate though.
Agree, I guess I was just trying to level set (maybe in my own mind). We're going to be good. I'm pretty confident we'll be competing for a B1G championship type good. All the discussions we're having about who plays how many minutes and the like in my view is more focused on what makes us a team that is capable of making the final four or winning it all.Veryyyyy early in the season. Be tough, and Michigan looks like they can score but who knows they can keep that up all year. Wisconsin is always tough. But season just started so tough to go off any sample size so far.
Agree with this. It seems to be that the biggest difference between Colvin and Heide at this point is that Heide looks more comfortable with the speed of the game. Itās not surprising since heās been in the program for a year, but it also means that Colvin may come on strong as he gets more comfortable.Agree. Theyāre now 2-29 to open the season for 3sā¦just getting rid of all those misses now š if they donāt hit the 3 ball vs Duke, they will be in for a looooong nightMSU only made one 3 again against southern Indiana last night
Tough place to play! Will be curious to see how we play there this year. Maryland, I think, is going to be competing for the B1G title this year!As a DC-area Boilermaker, I NEED a win at Xfinity over those damn turtles! š±
