Our motion offense would never, ever stop if they saw enough of those shirts in the stands.
...and that would improve Purdue. Most people would have no idea what "move" concerns...AND why! If a coach yells rebound or block out...some people get that. However if a coach yells move many will think it is to make it harder to guard the person they are guarding, but it is really mostly about making it more difficult to help on D and to make it harder for the other teams defensive rebounding...not to mention that with an offense that does things away from the ball, it helps offensively there as well. None of this is aimed towards you..it is just that there exists a certain % of the fans that really don't understand the reasoning behind a coach imploring his players to do what is needed when resting is easier. ;)

Agree. I’ve coached 6th graders for years & they tend to play a “pass & watch” offense. I yell “move” or “cut” often during games.

TBH, I don't think I've heard Painter yell it quite so much these past couple of years, probably because he has had a consistent core of players that know to keep moving around.

Next year, with all of those seniors gone, who knows.

This may help. Give them just a little structure to supplement the motion. I got a girls team and we overload the side of the court with the ball by having the point dribble to the wing position with players occupying the high post, low post, and corner on the ball side and one player on the weak side wing.
We reverse the ball either by the point dribbling weekside or the corner coming to get the ball and reversing it. She uses a screen from the high post to attack the middle of the lane. If they switch the screen, hit the roll. If the week side helps, hit the wing on a basket cut.
Since we are all forwards I tell them to just fill the positions and keep running that basic high post curl from strong to weak, back and forth, which forces a sudo-motion offense.
I think the same overload will work against a 2-3 although we have not had the chance to try yet.

Loved this idea when it was proposed a week or so ago on this forum. Not sure if you were that person. But either way, this is a good idea. Also, a great idea to do a market test using a survey. I would suggest adding a price to the survey as in "Would you buy this shirt for $23.99?" Would give better indication of market demand.

A "move" drinking game would be interesting. Take a shot every time Coach Painter yells "Move!"

Go Purdue!

Thanks for the suggestion. Unfortunately I cannot change to wording to the survey question. Actually, these can purchased (no minimum order) for $15 plus shipping at https://www.lmspiritgear.com/products/move-tee

You do realize you are running a simplified version of Purdue’s motion weave, right?

How similar is Painter's motion to what Knight used to run, considering he was fan of the coach back in the 80s and just about every high school in the state emulated it?

Wow. I started from a set play for an easy layup, then thought I could make it motion. I saw saw it was a weave but had not made the connection to Purdue’s weave, but it is VERY much simplified. I’ll pay more attention to Purdue’s weave. Maybe I can get them closer to it...:)
Actually I’ll be happy if I can get them to SEE how to use the same thing against a zone.
If I can it will save me practice time that I just don’t have enough of.
I believe I can put the ball in the corner of the overloaded side against any zone we will see and that will make them all look like a 2-3 wether they start out as a 2-3, a 3-2, or a 1-3-1. Feed the strong low post, run the wing off the strong high post with a curl cut and hit that or the weak side wing from the strong low post if the zone collapses into the paint.
Now I’m babbling in text. It’s just too much fun to play with the x’s and o’s.

Hey Johnny, take a look at post 16 in this thread. I screwed up the reply and don’t want to rewrite it. Lazy I guess:oops:. The reply is buried in your quote.

What Purdue does with that initial weave is actually probably about 5-6 different options they could do depending on matchups and who is playing well. Watch closely and you’ll see specific options for Mathias off an on ball screen or an off-side double screen vs. Vince will get some ball rotation to get a one on one on the wing or a post up opportunity.

What you are doing is kind of skipping the ‘weave’ portion and going directly to the part where the bigs screen on ball. Good stuff!

We ran it against a 2-3. It worked better on that than it did man to man. I love 2-3 three zone when i’m on offense. So easy to pick apart.
This “offense” is the right complexity for this teams current understanding of game.
