Mostert

Sooo, about this narrative that the rushing attack feasted on the non-conf & then struggled against B1G teams (sacks are included in college team rushing stats & I didn't take the time to remove them)...

PU team non-conf: 4.0 yds/rush
PU team B1G games: 5.0 yds/rush

Mostert non-conf: 4.7 yds/rush
Mostert B1G games: 9.1 yds/rush

Hunt non-conf: 5.8 yds/rush
Hunt B1G games: 5.4 yds/rush

Before the objections come, here is the same comparison with ND added in with the B1G opponents...

PU team non-conf w/o ND: 4.4 yds/rush
PU team B1G + ND: 4.8 yds/rush

Mostert non-conf w/o ND: 4.6 yds/rush
Mostert B1G + ND: 7.1 yds/rush

Hunt non-conf w/o ND: 5.7 yds/rush
Hunt B1G + ND: 5.5 yds/rush

And we weren't playing western michigan, central michigan, and SIU in the 2nd half of the season.
You are right. We faced Central Michigan (16th ranked rush defense) and Western Michigan (34th ranked rush defense) early in the season when we had to face the mighty defenses of Minnesota (59th), Northwestern (70th), Nebraska (77th), IU (81st) and Illinois (123rd) at the end.

You must not understand the difference between a median and a mean.
Until we get a coaching staff and RBs who understand that a quality offense is predicated on 3 handoffs of 3.333334yds each until they hit pay dirt, we will never be any damn good! You can't carry 3 or more defenders for 3.33334yds on your back, grab some bench Sparky. You don't know to take a knee after 3.33334yds no matter how much open real estate is front of you, enjoy special teams Waldo. It's simple arithmetic, DNA testing, quantum physics, and astrology I say!

Yes, but we were playing Northwestern and IU. We had no business getting worked at home by Northwestern or losing to a third-team FR QB (IU).
Hunt got hurt during the IU game, and couldn't finish it out.

Also losing that game was on the passing offense / defense... Appleby threw for 120 and 3 picks, while the running game carried 34 times for 228 yards, with an average (or mean) yards per carry of 6.7 which isn't that bad

And this negates my statement how? Appleby did play horribly in that game, no doubt, but teams win or lose games, don't they? Moral victory for the running back crew, loss for the Purdue football program.

Well, we have been talking about the run game the whole thread. If you wanna talk about QB woes, or the defense you have a point. Either way both were at a loss to a certain degree. The offense was barren of any wide receivers who could consistently get open or make a play. The defense lost Ezuchukwu, and wasn't that great in the first place, and it was out there nearly all game
