It's really sad to see those shots of the empty stadium during the broadcasts. Stretches of play like today's first half give some hope, but those like the second half bring me back to reality. Burke and Hazell set this program back years. But I guess we have a nice pool.

"It will be kind of fun to see whether I’m right or if some of the pundits are right, but I’m confident in Darrell."

Yeah....tough to watch those shots of the stadium capture the "cannonball" crowd. You could shoot off several cannons and not touch a soul.

Kudos to those attending and supporting the team at the stadium.

It's a long uphill climb ahead.....but.....it can be done.

And better yet, Purdue is paying Morgue nearly $500k thru 2017.
Excellent!

$561K in salary for Burke in 2015 to continue to misallocate funds to sports which generate no revenue. The result? A $5 mill revenue shortfall in football annually for the past several years. Hell, a freshmen student at Krannert could have figured this out.

Thank you Big Ten Network...

Actually I believe that is Morgan's assignment next semester is to teach at Krannert. He certainly has a great case study in how to foul up an athletic department at a major university.

Yes and now he's an instructor at Krannert next year. Perhaps he will learn something!

I am surprised that a class action lawsuit has not been issued against him for misapplication of funds and running the football program into to dirt. Many people's enjoyment of Saturday's football experience has been ruined by this man's incompetence. He has stolen millions of dollars from the university over the years yet nothing is or has been done about it.

Here is the thing about Burke. While he did build other athletics at Purdue and that was nice, he really neglected the Purdue football team almost completely. Swimming pool facilities or let the football stadium look like a ghetto for another decade. This is inexcusable. How do you leave the biggest revenue generating sport sitting there getting embarrassed on national TV for over a decade. When I say embarrassed I mean embarrassed. There should have been an effort made to remain competitive at the very least. Purdue has a huge fan base in between Chicago and Indianapolis. All they had to do was invest in a proper football stadium with an upper deck. Spread quality seating around (not cramming them in), and allow bars, restaurants, hotels, to come into the area around the football stadium and people would come from all over the country who are Purdue fans. Another airline capable runway at the Purdue airport / Lafayette airport extension wouldn't hurt anything either. He had no vision at all. Purdue needed to do what Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State did years ago. They probably should allow corporations to come in like they do in pro stadiums to whatever extent allowable. Give people a reason to come and they will. It is as simple as that. He never went after rich donors enough either. A simple logical assessment would have been nice as well. The stadium needs a total overhaul, and this time do it right. To the new AD. Why not let the local restaurants, or local food places lease out the places in the stadium to serve more quality food and beer in the stadium? At least on the alumni side.

They need to rethink this whole operation top to bottom. Why not lease out business around the stadium connected to the stadium, or thereabouts? Millions of dollars in revenue right there. On the student side of the stadium they have concrete useless walls surrounding the stadium. Why not put year around businesses affixed on the outside/built into the stadium so that includes eateries, quality sports shops, restaurants, etc. Customers can come year round to eat at the stadium on campus. Whatever is allowable they should of exploited. It is stuff like that which is totally lacking leading to this lackluster aroma that surrounds Purdue football. Very few top 5 conference programs would have left that kind of stuff go like Burke did during a critical sports time. Conference changes, realignment, all this stuff happening and Burke has Purdue dead last in football for nearly 7 years straight. I can't remember the last time Purdue finished better than last in the Big Ten.

"Turning A Profit Center Into A Cost Center": A Study of Purdue Football With Professor Burke.

First take home exam: In reasonable detail, outline who you would hire as football coach for Purdue University, and explain your work.

Second take home exam: Provide a summary of the contract terms for your new coach, and remember to explain your work.

All assignments due by close of business.......errr....ummm.....5:00 pm on June 30, 2017.

Purdue has thirteen varsity sports...lowest number in the BIG and this academic year we will have only two finish in the upper half of the conference. Men's basketball and Woman's volleyball. You cant blame it all on Burke, but you must include the BOT. Athletics takes money.

FWIW, in my mind, you cant call Purdue a great university anymore because of the Total Lack Of Success in the Athletic Department. Stanford is great. Notre Dame is great. Michigan is great. OSU is great. I could go on listing, but a GREAT UNIVERSITY is very good in all that it does. Our Athletic Department is the laughing stock of the Nation. One has to think a minute to name some sport we are good at? Any sport we are good at...even drinking...tiddly winks...horseshoes...barrel racing...

FWIW, our football team wont be worth a plug nickel if all of you think it, football, will be cured by just the hiring of a new coach.

What is Burke's legacy...total failure. The only duel swim meet I have seen is the total domination of Purdue by IU on BTN since the new facility was maybe 5 years old! WOW...what a bost that facility has made! tic Baseball...we had to go to Gary to loose the only opportunity we have had in maybe forever to go to the College World Series because Old Morge couldnt get the new stadium done on time. Since then, we have slowly drifted into last place in the conference,

Think...If you were a really, really good athlete in anything; would you really want to go to Purdue?

Thank you Morgan Burke!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thank you BOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

If I had been named president, my very first action would have been to fire Burke. The most obvious thing to do to improve Purdue.

I want to block Burke from my memory. Please don't mention him again.

If Morgan had not reneged on leaving in 1997, we might recall him fondly as the AD that hired Tiller.

Even though Tiller was his third choice!

Talk about legacies … idiots bitching about a $17-million pool that opened the same year the university spent $70 million on Ross-Ade, while another fool can’t even count the number of sports we have.

Go ahead and make us all proud. Complain again about the softball program moving from its porta-johns after 20 years.

Burke hired the best and worst football coaches in our history and rebuilt every sports facility we have. Enough said.

he did a lot for facilities, but

To clarify aquatic center was first and opened in 2001, football phase 1 only was 2001-03.
Then other sports (excluding track?, softball later) priortized before/simultaneously with basketball

Other than the oversize "press box," the $70 million Morgue spent on R-A did little more than make it safe again. Most of the stadium was still a disaster after the renovation. But it was enough for Morgue to decide he didn't need to invest anything else in football for another decade.

An AD's job is about more than just building facilities. Morgue failed miserably at everything else, with the exception of the acorn he lucked into with Tiller.

There are two rules to being a successful AD and Burke failed miserably at both.

1. Make sure your football program is successful.
2. Don't forget rule 1.

Burke actually announced he was resigning effective in early 1998 to return to Inland Steel. He was probably still objective at that point and realized he was over his head in the AD job. Then Tiller started winning and Burke mistook luck with thinking he was good at being an AD. I remember how disappointed Tiller, and the other coaches, were when Burke changed his mind.

You forgot to mention Dr. Disaster's Marketing GENIUS and how he elevated the Purdue "brand";
the best example of this was when Burke tried to change our fight song and produced a slick, highly-polished video to introduce that new fight song.

I'll never forget it because it started out great, with Purdue fans enthusiastically marching to Ross-Ade Stadium in a frenzy, all excited to spend the afternoon watching Purdue actually compete on the gridiron!

But once those die-hards arrived at the stadium, they saw that it was only for the "chosen few", the "elite" decision makers who called the shots. Of course, it was obvious to everyone that Purdue had decided that they didn't want to participate in an "arms race", so those "wise" decision makers decided to have a good old-fashioned foot race; and of course Purdue finished in LAST PLACE in that too.

Oh well, "Other diversions were to be found in the Eternal Gardens of Pleasure."

Translation: TWO-THIRDS of our fan base has kicked these STUPID LOSERS (meaning Athletic Dept.) to the curb.
And we are NOT coming back! You DON'T understand this, do you?

Sorry- all Burke will be remembered for is the gigantic dumpster fire of an AD he left behind.

And the incredibly lame short-sleeve shirt and tie look.

All right GBI - who allowed Morgue to open an account here?

Boy this really sounds crazy.

If he was so bad, how was he allowed to stay here for so long. My point is that I think much of the blame should be given to the BOT and presidents. How many presidents did Burke's tenure outlast? At least 3 by my count.

I agree, the presidents are as much at fault. I think it was 4 presidents, Beering, Jischke, Cordova, and Daniels. Not counting Sands interim president term.
