I think Fleck made a mistake by not talking to us. It looks like Oregon is passing on him. Cincinnati will be an option but they will not be paying $3.3M/yr for him, more like ~$2M. He may stay with WMU but that's taking a chance, if he doesn't have a similar year. Will be interesting to see where he ended up.

The more I learn about Brohm the happier I get. I think Brohm was the absolute best fit out there for Purdue and Bobinski deserves every penny he is being paid. The Bucket is returning to West Lafayette for many years.

I guess you can say he knows better than anyone else what he'll have to work with next year at WMU. He also knows the MAC and no doubt has a sense of how the rest of the league will stack up next year.

Plus, WMU just got the chance of a lifetime to play in the Cotton Bowl. Who wouldn't want to follow that through to the end?

I'd pass it up for a few million a year.

Totally agree. I think perhaps Bobinski has secured a Harbaughesque coach for Purdue University: Former college and professional quarterback from a football family who comes from a particular system upon which he has built his own plan of attack, demonstrated success in recruiting, player development, and on-field success, the ability to relate to players and motivate them, and overall coaching competence.

One major difference, though, is that Brohm does not seem like a functional lunatic.

I'm glad we got Brohm cus I think he is better fit at Purdue. I was never sold on Fleck, seems too much like salesman too me. I just think he might have missed out for not talking to us.

This. I think we have landed a sane Jim Harbaugh. Plus, Brohm seems much more like a Purdue man than Fleck. I think Purdue might be a tad conservative and controlled for Fleck.

I really like this hire. So much so that I walked into the JPC office and renewed my lapsing membership yesterday. The secretary indicated they had been hearing from a number of folks like me.

Just give us something we can be proud of. I already feel this way about Brohm.

Does Fleck loose his QB to graduation this year? If so, he may not have such a great season next year at WMU and his value goes down. It is gamble, no doubt. I wonder if he is interested in Cincy. I don't think it is such a climb up from WMU.

WMU loses 3 year starter Zach Terrell at QB and likely first round draft pick Corey Davis at WR. If Fleck is smart he takes the Cincy job.

Fair point, but that doesn't necessarily mean Fleck would pass it up for a few million a year at Purdue. I mean, just look at the last six or eight head coaches Purdue has had. How many really enhanced their careers here? Probably just Young and Tiller.

Fleck certainly could have pulled a Haze --- take the $20 million and rest secure regardless of the outcome. But, my guess is that he has bigger ambitions and judged Purdue not to be the best springboard.

I'm thrilled that Brohm took on a colossal rebuild, but I can't say I blame Fleck for passing.

Passing on Purdue to go to Oregon is one thing. Passing on Purdue for a non-P5 job that pays less doesn't make much sense to me.

Unless he stays put at WMU next year and hopes that a job like ND opens up.

And hopes that he's still the hot coach next offseason. He loses some players and may do a great job next year and go 8-4 or 9-3. Will he still be "the" guy next year or the guy teams start to consider if they can't land "the" guy? Like I said, it's a bet on himself. It's gutsy if his ambition is to move up the ladder. Then again, he may really just not care about everything and will be happy to stay at WMU for the 1.5 million they can scrounge up to give him.

I was wrong. I thought he would get a p5 job by now. Notre dame, oregon, baylor, Purdue. Houston gone and that leaves Cincinnati. Wow. That's why purdue was his best option. P5, could only go up, big pay.

Here' an update. Fleck is running out of options and won't speak with Cincy cus he "wants a Power Five job". At some point people think you are too full of yourself.

Fleck is young and feeling on top of the world right now. I suspect he is overestimating his market value. Confident guy, for sure. But if he returns to WMU there is nowhere for his stock to go but down. Even a 2 or 3 loss season would be seen as regression. Breaking in a new QB with trips to USC and MSU, and they might very well be 1-2 to begin the season.

I think Fleck could likely go to Cinncy and use it as a spring board. Unfortunately for Fleck, he peaked at the wrong time when only 4 P5 jobs came open (excluding IU due to an immediate hire) and of those 5, 3 were out of his league (Oregon, Texas, LSU). Of the remaining two (Purdue and Baylor), Fleck wouldn't have been a good fit at Baylor at all with it being so heavily conservative and a private school. That left Purdue and if Fleck didn't feel like a good fit here, he is likely shooting himself in the foot. He could have easily come to Purdue, spent 3-5 years here and jumped shipped to, at worst, and equal job had he been able to get the program to 7-5...which should be doable. Heck, in 3 years, if he was able to get Purdue to 8-4 or even 9-3 (by some miracle), he could easily jump to a much bigger job.

As it goes further in, Fleck appears to be hedging his bets that he is worth a bigger gig than a lower level P-5 gig at this point like Purdue or a non P-5 gig like Cinncy. However, Cinncy is arguably a top 5 G5 program.

If he stays at at WMU, what teams will open up next year? If they have a down year, will he st
praying that Cincy goes after Moorhea

I don't think his ego could take sucking even for $20MM

Is he truly out of running for Oregon?
I've heard they are going after Willie Fritz, current USF coach and former WKU coach. Although with Matt Rhule being hired at Baylor, nothing would surprise me.

Could be. I'm not saying Purdue would necessarily suck under Fleck --- but it could be that he judged the situation to be too big a risk.

Allen would be a good option at DC if they fire him. Purdue may not consider him because of the rivalry but look what he did with that IU defense! Imagine him recruiting at a school actually known for defense.
Get Hagen back to Purdue.....that's the only IU person I want back at Purdue....Hagen can recruit.....I actually do not want any IU at Purdue...but if we had to have one...Hagen would be the one...he was here before.

He(Allen) was born in Renselear, graduated from New Castle HS and coached at Ben Davis-I bet he would have first hand knowledge of high schools and coaches throughout IN and would be a huge asset w/local recruiting....but it wont happen-Hagen might though?

He also has some off the field issues that he has to iron out before he can personally leave the state of MI.....

I watched a lot of games Saturday and during one I watched an interview of Fleck (can't remember for the life of me which one it was). He seemed pretty weird and turned me off to him. He's an odd ball for sure. We got the right guy!

Row the boat versus the tight knit Brohm family feels (lot of energy there). I'll take the more genuine one. It's not just fan excitement.. I bet the culture has already started to trend up because Jeff Brohm. I'm all in.

What I will miss about Darrell Hazell...that smooth shaven face. That cannot be replicated by anyone.

I feel good that we will never be subjected to the asinine "row the boat" mantra which I understand is all over Kazoo on bldgs, signs, business cards, restaurant menus, and athletic dept emails. Never understood it. WMU nickname is Broncos. Broncos cant row boats, they have hooves? Besides most noteworthy alum from WMU is Tim Allen? Hes not even funny............

Ease up on my childhood bro.

Sorry but is this a PJ Fleck party? I could care less about him now. Can we move on and focus on Coach Brohm? As many have said Bobinsky "hit a home run" with this hire. I am happy that I kept my seats!
