Milton Wright

I didn't say Purdue would turn down either player. I said if one player commits, looking at our other talented receivers who are redshirting this year, and our other current receiver commits, I doubt the other of the two would commit to Purdue.

I liken it to Martin and Hummel. They were both great players who unfortunately played the same position. Martin wanted to be a starter and didn't want to share time, so he left for ND.

Typically, if you're an elite athlete, you want and expect to start, rather than sharing the time and the ball. I believe it's kind of obvious, whoever signs with Purdue will be our #2 receiving option for at least the next two years. And if we sign both Bell and Wright, one of the two will be our #3 option, and maybe #4 with our other recruits. I know these guys all talk about it's a team and everything. But how many elite 4* athletes want to come to a team where they know they will be the #3 option for at least the next 2 years?

You don't know any of that. These, like a lot of posts from other posters, are pure assumptions. None of us have any idea if Bell, Wright, Sheffield, or Rice will be the #1, #2, or #3 option next year (Assuming we get Bell and/or Wright). A lot of people on here seem to post like they know exactly who will start, red-shirt, and sit the bench. The catch is, none of us know what Brohm and his staff know and none of us can say for sure who will be what option next year. Bell and Wright are talented high school receivers who could come in and compete right way or maybe not. Bell and Wright could commit to Purdue and beat out the other receivers and start right off the bat with Moore in the slot. Then again, they could commit and red-shirt. Who can say. Some guys pan out and some don't. Selwyn Lymon should have been the best or one of the best receivers to ever play at Purdue, but he we all know how that went. Nobody has a guarenteed starting job.

So your saying it’s an Alabama type problem. Works well for them.

Yup. it's an Alabama type problem with a few exceptions. They can basically promise every player they will ALWAYS participate in a major bowl game every year, win a national Championship at least once in their stay. if they start, they'll be a first round draft pick, and get lots of nice things under the table.

and I'm sorry, but going to the Outback or Gator bowl is NOT a major bowl game to an Alabama player. For an elite player to come to Purdue, he's coming to get noticed, and maybe get drafted and play in the pros. Very few elite athletes choose a school based on its academic reputation. If they did, given a choice of Purdue or Northwestern they'd choose Northwestern. and low and behold, Hunter did. Then again, did he choose northwestern for its academics, or did he choose it for a chance to start?

I'm not talking about your typical 3* high school player from Indiana who has several choices, and Picks Purdue over Toledo and IU. I'm talking about your elite athletes who have offers to play for Alabama, OSU, and Penn St. When an elite player has offers to play anywhere he wants, especially Alabama, they may be willing to accept not starting immediately. But to come to a school like Purdue, They are going to want to be a featured player.

be honest. if brohm informed Moore he'd be behind Anthrop on our depth chart and he might redshirt his freshman year, do you believe he would have committed to Purdue?

actually I do. I never said what will happen. I just alluded to what goes through a recruit's mind when selecting a school. Once they get to a school, anything can happen. However, there are certain things an elite recruit looks for in choosing a school. it's admittedly different for each recruit. but it's a lot different for an elite recruit and a normal recruit.

I said no way would Langford come to Purdue as long as Carsen was still here. you can believe it was all about the shoes if you want. I believe it was all about Langford wanting to be the STAR and not playing second fiddle or in Edward's shadow. If Carsen had turned pro, Purdue would have had a much better chance in recruiting Romeo. With Carsen, Purdue had zero chance.

I personally knew an elite TE who graduated from our local high school last year. he was rated as the top TE in the nation. To please the locals, he listed Illinois as one of his top 5 final schools even though he had no intentions of playing there. he ended up choosing Georgia over Alabama. Why? Not because of their better academic program. Georgia's coach promised him he'd be a starter by his sophomore year. and that was a promise Alabama couldn't make. he's third on the depth chart this year, but he's not redshirting. and maybe next year, he will start. because that's what elite athletes do. They play immediately. and they go to schools that offer them that opportunity.

tell me again if Bell or Wright come to Purdue, do you honestly believe they would become Purdue's #1 target next year ahead of Moore? I don't think so.

I was assuming in your previous post that you were referring to options within the players position. Even so, why would having a dynamic, play making slot receiver deter a talented outside receiver from wanting to come to Purdue? He/they have to go some where and if they go to any good program there will be excellent play makers already there. At Purdue, there are plenty of yards to go around. Moore and Bell/Wright play different positions. Having a better slot receiver takes some of the heat off the outside receivers and allows them more opportunities to make plays. The only returning starter at outside receiver is Sparks so there is opportunity there to get on the field early.

As for who will be the overall option 1 on the team next year. Most people would put their money on Moore based on what he is doing this year. I am sure Rondale will get targeted a lot next year. He is a dynamic play maker and needs to be targeted a lot. Will he get the most targets? Hell, I don't know. Nor do I know for sure who will be in our final recruiting class next year. With Zico and Wright gone, the only returning outside WR that plays meaningful minutes is Sparks, which means the other starting position is up for grabs and it will probably be one of the younger studs who fills it. Who that will be and who will end up being the best is something I don't know.

Crystal Ball on 24/7 up to 62% after a few experts flipped their choices.

Could be an all time recruiting haul at WR for Purdue

Wright
Bell
Shelfield
Rice
I'm really hoping that Milton gets together with David Bell, at the game. They talk it over, and both of them decide they can be quite a team, with Moore and Anthrop at the slot, and Wright, Bell, Rice, Sheffield, and Sparks at WR. That would be awesome to watch. Talk about big play potential.

another thorn I'll throw out there. While this board keeps talking about how great Wright and bBell would be as a wide-out, I'm curious as to is that the position they want to play? and is that the position other colleges are recruiting them to play? has there been any mention that either player may want to play or being recruited to play the slot ?

I'll admit, I don't know. I'm just asking.

Wolegib: check out MWs interview on the G&B main page. That will answer your questions for him. Notice he says he’s 6’3.5”.

Brohm wants to go 3 and 4 wide. We lose 3 scholarship WRs this year.

Also, take elite talent if you can get it. The scholarship numbers will work themselves out.

“We had multjple four star receivers and Payton wanting to commit.. the kind of guys MSU might have trouble holding. Too bad we couldn’t keep chase Triplett.”

Yes I do!! Kyle [Bilodeau] choose Purdue (over every school listed and then some except Alabama) for academics and the ability to join in building something special with CJB. Kyle is considered by the majority as an elite TE in this class and was not guaranteed anything coming in. This coaching staff shoots straight with no promises of playing time. You must earn the time. Elite athletes don’t mind that because they know where they stand skill wise and love to compete and know not many gonna beat them out. The program will be playing in Indy, in NYD bowls on a consistent basis (maybe even as soon as next year) and will be right there for CFP consideration within by 2021. This staff is charismatic, talented, and know how to win and recruit for the kids of today.

Did I miss something with Chase Triplett?

Likely first guy dropped if they have to drop someone to take premium recruits, but take your pick. In today’s recruiting world it will be a game of musical chairs with schools dropping player x to add top recruit y that they didn’t have room for

No, that's not how it works, at all. For one thing, Triplett is a LB; still a position of need. For another thing, there is a natural thing called attrition, and it happens every year, for dozens of different reasons. For Purdue, it happens to 1-3 people. Am I right on this folks?

Uh it is how it works. If they had three spots and Weaver, Bell, Wright and Payton want to commit, and there is no attrition at that point, they’re going to pick some low level recruit and allow them to check out their options, with notice that they might be the man out.

Some have said Triplett will develop into a Leo, but if you presume he’s a straight linebacker, they’d roll with Long and Khali Saunders before they told Wright they didn’t have room.

I’m thinking Sheffield would play slot?

What about Anderson and Taylor? They were almost as highly rated as Moore on Rivals. Good size from them.

Wonder what position he will play? Looks like WR or RB? Could he be conditional if we lose both Bell and Wright? Or could it be upperclassman RB?

He’s an early enrollee which carries additional value. However, I do believe he’s probably in the event Wright goes elsewhere since Bell is committing in January.

Purdue took two LBs last year. They can not afford to only take two again. Markus Bailey could also declare for the draft after this season.
