Team gets a B overall:
  • Defense is an A primarily due to run stop with turnover margin improving as of late. Great job!
  • Offense is a C up from a C-. Without solid RB contribution, we've been a one trick pony till Zander re-appeared alongside Doerue. Doerue was able to do much improved work the last two weeks.
  • Special Teams C down from a B. Fineran has to get over the yips & regain confidence as a game may hinge on his leg. No blocked punts and returns only have to remain steady w/no turnovers. Keep improving.
Re-adjusting my expectation from 6-6 pre season to 7-5. Would love to see Purdue knock off either MSU, O$U, or both but not expecting either. Want to see them come out from those games competitive and healthy.
Beat NW and IU and that is a successful season. 6-6 would be as expected and still have a bowl game which gets young guys much needed training time. Hungry to see a winning season and what recruits we can get in both H.S. talent + Portal (which I'm still getting used to the open market concept).

  1. Overall B Would not have thought they'd be 5-3 right now with the schedule that's been played. I'm still highly disappointed with the Minnesota game. But the team made up for it with the win at Iowa. Cannot be disappointed with the record to date...
  2. Defense A to A+ They've exceeded everything that I could have imagined possible this year. If someone would have told me we'd be tied for 3rd or 4th in the league this year, I would have laughed in their face.
  3. Offense C- Shouldn't be surprising they can't run the ball. But still very disappointed to see how they've struggled with basic run blocking. However, they looked much better against Nebraska.
  4. Special Teams C Punting has been horrific. Punt returns continue to put the team in a hole. However, to your point, turnovers have been kept to a minimum...
I'd say 7-5 is likely barring some catastrophe. Both 6-6 or 8-4 are possible depending on how they play against Mich St and IU...

To your #2 point: If it were pre-season and I was drinking a beer, anyone who would've said tied for 3rd or 4th in the league would probably be wearing that mouthful of beer as I'd likely been laughing! I'm not laughing now as they are pretty salty at times. I like their collective attitude.
It is refreshing to not have to lower expectations for a season.
