Michigan = the new college athlete

why even bother playing any games at all? After the first loss all games are meaningless why not just give Alabama their crown?
You realize this is only a problem with 5ish players a year right?

5 ish players this year. how many next year ???

and for that matter, how many injuries sustained this year were real? how many games could Sindelar actually have played in? Who made the decision for him not to play? Purdue? or Sindelar?

Probably 5ish next year

As for sindelar, who cares, he’s coming back

Are they not just as prone to injury (maybe more so against bigger, faster, and stronger opponents) at a premier bowl game? Is it worth risking guaranteed millions? I’m torn on the issue but wondering why a more prestigious college bowl is a no-brainer to some when they can still risk losing so much. I get the whole pride thing and loyalty to your school and fans, but if you agree sitting a lower bowl is wise (because of money) is it not still wise regardless of bowl?
Exactly, leave the bowls to scrubs who can get hurt. Team loses two games and is out of NC contention so all decent players should quit? Let's face it the players don't give a crap about their school and the fans of most big time schools never attended the school. Will be interesting to see what college sports look like in 10 years.

To be fair I should say meaningless to the exiting players. I like the extra practice and think it’s a good time to work on things for the next season.

I kind of see it like this too. In some ways, the bowl season is the start of next season. It might be more beneficial to teams to get more reps and playing time to younger guys who will have bigger roles next year, rather than giving those reps to guys who are going to be gone.

As far as the team aspect, bowls have been like this forever. It might be new with healthy players sitting out, but coaches leave quite often between the end of the regular season and the bowl game, so why should players be any different? Brohm left WKU after the regular season and didnt coach their bowl game in 2016. Bowl games are basically glorified exhibition games, and NFL players sit out preseason games all the time, and I dont really think it is that much different.

Football culture is a bit different than BB, but look at what the one and done mentality has brought to college BB. NBA players sitting near the end of the regular season as well. Was it just lag due to FB having an enduring traditional team sport culture but now this is finally infecting FB? I hope not as I hate seeing teams’ players voluntarily sitting games, even “meaningless” games.
