Thank you. Nice explanation. I guess its how you take someone's comments (i.e. the Michigan DC). Like when our teams were young, as in the late 1800s, we were accused of bringing on "ringers' and were called Boilermakers, as in guys who worked as iron forgers making ships, locomotives and boilers on trains. A derogatory term at the time. Today it is a term of endearment. Not surprised to hear a DC calling them "gimmicks." An OC calls them "concepts."
Is play-action a gimmick? Motion? Run pass options? A DC will always prefer you just line up and run basic plays, but it doesn't work like that.
Funny because this guy's defense is nothing but "gimmicks." Rarely lines up in a traditional alignment, zone blitzing, press-man. He's just upset that he has to prepare his young defense to keep eye discipline.
Hit the nail on the head. Calling it a "gimmick" is offensive to the time and expertise that CJB puts into designing the plays. The trolls on this board in the late 1800's were unbearable.Thank you. Nice explanation. I guess its how you take someone's comments (i.e. the Michigan DC). Trick is only a trick if you are fooled.
Gimmick - an ingenious or novel device, scheme, or stratagem, especially one designed to attract attention
Let's take it as a badge of honor that our coach and team are smarter than them. Winning doesn't just have to be about physical superiority, but can be about being smarter, as well.

I think it does a much better job breaking down the Purdue offense than Michigan's defensive coordinator does. What the UM DC should have said is "the Purdue offense has a lot of misdirection" rather than "gimmick".
Ahhhh, I remember them well!!!The trolls on this board in the late 1800's were unbearable.
Likely he's posturing so that if his D gets rolled on it wasn't by a legitimate team. Kind of like that 100 year flood that happens every 5 years.Maybe the UM DC isn't figuring out what Brohm is doing with the offense so he is resorting to calling it gimmicky.
