At least he played and didn’t opt out. Give him a lot of credit for that.Hutchinson was a “no show” tonight against Georgia. Only thing I saw him do was draw a holding call. I wonder if his draft stock will drop.
To play devils advocate. You go to college to get the best job you can. David and George have the opportunity to play in the NFT and be drafted early. If I could have made guaranteed millions coming out of Purdue I would have done whatever it took to make that happen. I would have loved to see them on the field against Tennessee but I don’t think they owned that to Purdue or anything (not saying you said that either) and I don’t hold them sitting out against them.At least he played and didn’t opt out. Give him a lot of credit for that.

If I had a son that was in their position, I would give him the advice is staying out. I believe that even their coach would probably give the same advice. This whole thing of acting like David and George are for some reason not real Purdue guys because of not playing in the music city bowl is not right. Hmmmm let me think, risk my entire future in the nfl, or be music city bowl champion? I know which I would choose every single time. These guys are about to be paid and they don’t need to be chastised about missing a meaningless bowl game. Nor should that game be compared to a national title playoff game. I guarantee you they would have been in the lineup for a national title. Nowhere near the same comparison. People need to stop deriding young guys who made a decision based on their future.
The back corner fade TD to Sheffield was usually a play for Bell. You mean trey lance?Look at Qb’s Nance and Love. Nance didn’t play on a bowl game his last year and Love was a terrible QB his last year. Yet they both were first round picks. Love left early for the NFL.
I don’t believe NFL success will follow either player, but they at least got that first huge contract. I’m not sure what NFL scouts look for, but in their case it sure wasn’t their on the field performance!
The spelling may have been wrong but my point was spot on! However you decide to look for flaws and typos rather than the substance of the post! Didn’t you? Your first post of the year used to correct a typo! This board needs more posters like you!You mean trey lance?
that you don’t know what scouts look at? I agree with thatThe spelling may have been wrong but my point was spot on! However you decide to look for flaws and typos rather than the substance of the post! Didn’t you?
History will dictate actual game performance is not the first factor NFL scouts look for! Will kg be drafted before Hutchinson? Don’t know and really don’t care. Will Bell be drafted before the OSU receivers? Doubtful!that you don’t know what scouts look at? I agree with that
how is TJ doing? and does it require surgery? The back corner fade TD to Sheffield was usually a play for Bell. It could have been Bell's busted foot instead of TJs
Don’t disagree with your game performance comment. That’s why I largely don’t mind that they skipped the game. Both of their futures rely on the combine. There was no benefit to their draft status if they played in the gameHistory will dictate actual game performance is not the first factor NFL scouts look for! Will kg be drafted before Hutchinson? I watched the first half and the first series for both teams in the 2nd half, their other DE was held in check too.Hutchinson was a “no show” tonight against Georgia. Only thing I saw him do was draw a holding call. I wonder if his draft stock will drop.
if any of the "star" players opt out of their perspective games other than the final four, I have no problem w/ it.Don’t disagree with your game performance comment. I was listening to a national sports radio show this morning and they had a CFB analyst on who said a UGA coach told him that UGA say 3 or 4 players better than Hutchinson in the SEC. Interesting comment.I watched the first half and the first series for both teams in the 2nd half, their other DE was held in check too.
It's helpful to know who the hell you are talking about in order to get the point of your post. It's a fair clarification, not nit-picking a misspelling, Captain Defensive. The spelling may have been wrong but my point was spot on! Look, I'm sure the team was disappointed. But if their teammates didn't understand why they sat out, they're probably not the best teammates either. Plus, it allows other players on the team an opportunity for playing time and prep for next season.I don't want to pick a fight or throw those guys under the bus. I understand the injury concern. But, I disagree.
Bell and Karlaftis might not have owed anything to Purdue or us fans, but I think they owed something to their teammates who worked all year to get to this game.
People say bowl games are meaningless, but everybody knows they're an important barometer of success. Every team starts the season with the goal of getting there. No team ever says, "Well we'll just play 12 games and call it a year."
I do empathize with Brohm's position on this one. Finish what you start. Same goes for anyone who missed the game for academic reasons.
Just my two cents.
Only 3 or 4? These SEC coaches are too modest.I was listening to a national sports radio show this morning and they had a CFB analyst on who said a UGA coach told him that UGA say 3 or 4 players better than Hutchinson in the SEC. Interesting comment.
Their teammates absolutely understand. They get it. It’s the old codgers yelling at clouds that don’t get it.Look, I'm sure the team was disappointed. I have a bit more of an issue of academic letdowns. I don't know the situation that Milton Wright was in, so I'm not going to judge him. He may have had personal issues. And according to Brohm, he's been one of the hardest working players all season. So I'm going to cut him a break. Now if he isn't academically eligible for next year, that's something different.
You’re right I don’t get it. Again money was so much greater in the NFL 5 years ago yet players didn’t opt out of bowl games then. Now rookie contracts are so much less and players opt out except for certain bowl games. So In these high profile bowl games these future pro players won’t get hurt? That’s what the agents tell their clients? Take the risk to play this game, but not that game. That makes absolutely no sense. In fact it’s nonsense.Their teammates absolutely understand. They get it. It’s the old codgers yelling at clouds that don’t get it.
GK and DB have done so much for Purdue. It’s a really bad look to disparage them. They could have gone anywhere but chose to come build something at Purdue. A program coming off historically bad seasons. They took a huge risk, bet on themselves and on the program and its coach. Beside their play, they did as much for recruiting than the entire staff the last 4 years and handled themselves with tremendous class.
"Old codgers yelling at the clouds..." Yikes, man, that hurts. I'm only 45!Their teammates absolutely understand. They get it. It’s the old codgers yelling at clouds that don’t get it.

You really struggle to understand the line between playoff game and not? You’re right I don’t get it. You struggle to understand taking the risk to get hurt or not? If it was consistent you might get it.You really struggle to understand the line between playoff game and not?
How is it inconsistent. Game that means something - play. Game that isn’t a playoff game - don’t play. Not hardYou struggle to understand taking the risk to get hurt or not? If it was consistent you might get it.
If these players are concerned about injury then don’t play in any bowl games. I wouldn’t like it, but that would make some sense. How is it inconsistent. Game that means something - play. Game that isn’t a playoff game - don’t play. Not hard
Players are likely not going to opt out of a chance to play for a national championship. They just aren't...If these players are concerned about injury then don’t play in any bowl games. I wouldn’t like it, but that would make some sense.
I agree on the bigger point, but, you go to college as an athlete to compete and win games and be a part of something bigger than you...to bail on all of that for your own interests goes against all of those things (and, that is not a shot at either Purdue guy as I could not be more thankful for what both of those guys did during their time at and for Purdue). To play devils advocate. Karlaftis was a non-factor in a number of games from a statistical standpoint, despite being the best player on the field on that side of the ball for either team.He won’t drop much, if at all, but there will be comments about his “lack of production” in the CFP or “elite talent”
If it was a playoff game, they would owe it to their teammates to be there. And I believe that they would have been.Bell and Karlaftis might not have owed anything to Purdue or us fans, but I think they owed something to their teammates who worked all year to get to this game.

I get both sides of this issue, and I'm not passionate about either. Who the h*ll is posting "David and George are for some reason not real Purdue guys"??
Where is this?
