Melvin and D`Onofrio to Purdue?

IU has a really good offense. I would say significantly better than ours.

I don't see 6 wins. EKU. Maybe Maryland in that they are in year 1 of rebuild. Maybe Cincinnati as the arrow could be starting to turn down. That is about it.

Nevada has a lot returning.

You could say Illinois, Minnesota, IU but all 3 on the road, all three bludgeoned us this year.

Penn State is not Michigan State, but still tough.

Iowa, Nebraska, Northwestern and Wisconsin are not unbeatable, but much better than us.

4-8 is about the ceiling with this team.
Didn't Purdue and Marshall sign a home and home series? When does Marshall come to Ross-Ade?

I thought I read that neither Shoop or Hudson had buyouts. I'm pretty sure they were employment-at-will hires. So even if they had a contract, a contract with no early-term buyout attached to it is basically the same thing as your typical non-exec employees in any industry.

They were 1 year deals that automatically renewed. If they were canned midseason, they were due their pay for the rest of the year

As for the 3 year, many schools are putting their coordinators on 3 year contracts with buyout amounts. Assistant coaches have little protection so I can understand why they want it

IU had a great offense, and we don't, but yeah other than that, pretty much just like IU.

Do you think IU's skill position players are that much better than ours on offense? I certainly don't. Their scheme was the difference and I'm hopeful our offense will improve because the coaches have improved.

I think anything over 2 wins gets him another year. We don't want to hit the reset button on this great operation.

I think morgue would love to get to 5 wins and call it progress. Sad we actually have to hope for complete disaster because there is no confidence in this administration to do the right thing.

The sooner hazell is gone the bettrr

Skill position players are comparable. O-line and QB were the difference. IU ran it on everyone, even when the opponent knew it was coming, because they had 2 or 3 NFL guys on the OL. We don't.

Definitely better on the O line, no doubt. I think Blough and Sindelar can be as good as Sudfeld with the right scheme and coaching.

To me, Blough isn't as accurate as Sudfeld. We will see on Sindelar.

Point being, I don't think our offense will be good enough to score the 35 points a game in the B1G that we will have to, given that teams will be playing pitch and catch against our "base" defense.

I think accuracy can be taught with a good QB coach.

I think our DBs are unproven. You may be right about 35 points. I hope not.

Blough doesn't have the arm that Sudfeld has but.........................................But Billy Dicken didn't have much of an arm either.

Billy Dicken also had the liver of 10 men. I've heard stories that you could light Dicken's breath with a lighter at Sunday practices. Currently he is the WR's coach at Illinois State. Wonder if Spack was hired to come to Purdue if Dicken would be one to come with...?

I think Spack would bring in whoever he wanted; not the company line with Morgan. Spack also has former Purdue player Lamar Conard, GA Codi Deti, and strength coach Jim Lathrop. Also had Taylor Stubblefield at one point.

Who should we have hired as DC?

Whoever our new head coach wanted. But we didn't go that route.

You're right though. This was to be expected with the moves we made to retain Hazell while letting his staff go. Nobody with options is going to jump on board at this point.

Threw darts with Billy one time. Nice guy. Yes he could drink, and he could still throw bullseyes even when you had to show him which dart board he was shooting at.

Haha. Well no crap!

But I agree.....we really didn't have options. I think we shit the bed with our actual hire, whereas D'nofrio at least HAD a decent resume.

Not really excited about Malone either.

We should have hired P.J Fleck IMO. He is just what this program needs. A fan base energizer. A FANTASTIC recruiter. It's exactly the 2 areas that we've been hurting in the most since Tiller retired on the job in 2005-2006.

The local ladies will love P.J. as well. I am so-so on him. Not a fan of the "pretty boy, look at me, I put product in my hair and wear a tie, isn't that so cool?" look. It was odd watching MSU, Alabama, Clemson, Oklahoma when these head coaches dress like their staff, how am I supposed to know who is running the team??

How will we know who's important?

I know! I know watching a Purdue game, the guy in the custom made white puffy vest like the tri-delt girls in line at Discount Den with an unusual bend to his hat is our head coach. My thing is if you are going to be out of the norm sloppy like a Belichick or Harbaugh or go dancing around like a Pete Carroll, you better be able to back it up. Otherwise you look like a chump getting his butt whipped while wearing a tie like Mike Nolan.

At least when you wear a tie while getting your ass whipped you look nice.

When you wear a puffy jumper track suit you just look like a tool.

But hey, we're so close right? We don't see what they see in practice!

What about Jeff Scott, offensive coordinator at Clemson? supposedly a knockdown recruiter.
