And propose a contract swap! Hazell for Sumlin! They can have the Haze clean toilets for all I care! Think about it critically....this really works well for all parties. If we don't win 6+ games and TAMU likely fires Sumlin after going 8-4 like he generally does for them....I think we could convince them to do this.

If they do fire Sumlin, they are on the hook for $15mil over 3 years. If we fire the Haze, we are on the hook for like $4.5mil over 2 years.

So we do this....just straight up swap contracts. They only have to pay Hazell's $4.5 mil buyout over 2 years instead of $15mil over 3.

From Purdue's end, we will likely have to pay the next guy $2.5 mil plus AND we would be paying Hazell still, so we'd only be out a few more hundred thousand dollars than if we were still paying Hazell AND we would have the coach we want. Then, hopefully by year 3 we will have the program back on track where we can afford to pay Sumlin that $5mil. So basically, we have the same output of cash for a proven commodity and we incentivize TAMU to get on board by helping them save $10mil over 2 years. We are out basically no more money than we would have been paying 2 coaches and we get the coach we want. I think this is perfect.

You realize they are different coaches what, 40 years apart?
Yes, I get it. I didn't go to a SEC school (I kid, I kid). I understand the space-time continuum.

So, besides having what - 1? - winning record in the SEC and chasing off numerous highly ranked recruits do you love about Sumlin? Please explain to me how being marginally successful in the best FB state in the country somehow translates to being the savior of a school in the midwest. He hasn't coached here in forever.

TAMU is not some perennial football powerhouse. They are historically better than us but have had down periods too. He's come in and made that program better.

He's a tireless recruiter.

The QBs leaving had more to do with his boneheaded OC (who he fired, unlike Hazell) than him.

He's a step above who we will/would likely hire. Are you one of the ones who thinks we are ready to pony up $6mil to get the best coach in the world like Greek? At this point it's a nice fantasy, but getting a new AD in house doesn't really mean squat as far as us turning over a new leaf spending wise.

I think our next coach will be paid in the 6-10 range in the B1G based solely on our increased TV revenues. It won't be $6MM, but I wouldn't be surprised if it is $4MM. The world has changed.

And stop comparing us to TAMU. That's silly. I do believe we could hire an ACC/B12/P12 coach simply based on the difference in revenues between conferences.

My point about Akers is that everyone thought we hired an amazing coach. We ignored the fact that UT was glad to see him leave. And guess what happened? Maybe Sumlin would be different; maybe history has a tendency to repeat itself.

Recruiter? TWO major QB's left. He did NOT recruit Manziel for A&M. He may be good for us but..............

He got the 2 QBs there. He wasn't the one that ran them off...it was the OC Spavital, who he promptly fired because of it.

Not everything is the HCs fault

You realize Akers had a better record than Sumlin, right?
UT has an all time winning percentage of 71%, whereas TAMU's is only 60%.

Akers won 74% of his games at UT, whereas Sumlin has won 69% of his games at A&M. To me, that shows Sumlin to be more likely to be successful at another school, since he has won quite a bit more than his predecessors, whereas Akers was just above average.

Fair point. It will be interesting where his % is after this year. I suspect it will drop.
