I can’t be the only one who’s suspected this about drones vs manned fighters for a long time. It seems pretty obvious and surprising it took Elon to speak out before we heard this taken seriously, but perhaps dissenting voices were just too timid or concerned for their employment.

For years we’ve been using it as a negative case study in the IT industry (and probably other engineering disciplines) to warn about feature creep and having too many unaligned stakeholders. The F-35 program has often been contrasted with the goals and methods of modern Agile development, which emphasizes a singly appointed product owner to lead the solution to a specific problem and deliver value quickly.
