I've heard some discussion about the 2015/16 team and how they would compare to the 2009/10 team. There is a site called ncaagamesim.com that allows you to select each team and simulate matchups even if it is Purdue vs Purdue. You can see the play by play, player stats, etc. which is pretty interesting.

I think it might depend which rules they play by. This team could put the 2009/10 team in serious foul trouble given the new emphasis on hand checking and the 30 second shot clock (more possessions). This team can afford to get beat off the dribble occasionally because of the back line shot blockers. That team had to try and keep you out of the lane.

Side note, I ran the simulation and thought it kind of funny Toyra had 6 points in a 1 point victory.

I think I'd take the 2009/10 team over this one. I think if this team has a certain weakness, it's that it doesn't match up with athletic teams very well. How would we defend Hummel? Biggie can't defend him but I can see Hummel doing a good job against Biggie. We can put Vince on Hummel but that's a matchup that favors Hummel. Meanwhile Haas can't match up with JJ's speed / range and I think the JJ/Hammons matchup would be a wash even if Hammons is fully engaged (and he's not always).

On the perimeter, Kramer, LewJack, Grant would really school these guys defensively. They would also have Moore who is a more all-around threat than anyone else on this year's team.

The best thing this team has going on is its depth. The 2nd unit of the 09/10 team would struggle mightily against the 2nd unit of the current team. But the 2nd unit plays ~ 10 minutes while the primary guys play 30. So I think the 90/10 team wins.

Really cool idea, but is this at all accurate?

My sim shows that this team wins 26 out of 30 times, and 40% of the time wins by more than 20 points.

Haas scored 3 points, Hammons scored 4 points, and 2016 wins 84-64? I think something's wrong. Perhaps it's just too early to tell much about this team.

This team is great early. IF....they improve could be a real competitor. Lots of room for improvement.

PJ vs Grant. Adv Grant on both ends
Ray vs Etwaun. Adv Etwaun when he's on O. It's a wash when Rays on O
Edwards vs Kramer. Adv Kramer when he's on D. Wash when Kramer is on O.
Swanningan vs Hummel. Adv Hummel on both ends. Until rebounding.
Haas vs Johnson. Adv JJ when he is on O. Haas when he is on O. But JJ still might block Haas 5/6 times.

Bench is not even close. Really does depend on how the game is officiated. If defense is really allowed to live here. Than 09/10 might be too much for this years squad.

IMHO this is yet to be determined. Coach Painter has had some really good teams in the past. Is this the best one yet, I certainly do not know. But will say it appears to be a very good team to date and if they continue to play and improve like they have to this point it may prove to be.
