From the Lafayette Journal & Courier yesterday...
Light doesn't follow the Boilermakers as closely as he wants to because of his foundation and other activities. He does have a role on the Football Leadership Council to provide input and feedback.
"There was a long period of time before (former football coach) Danny Hope that there wasn't an emphasis placed on that," Light said. "I don't put any of that on coach Tiller because that doesn't fall in the realm of winning football games. That should be the only thing the head coach worries about. We all know that's not the case.
"There was a real lack of that. Because Danny was a player's coach and because everybody loved him - present company included - he made an effort to do that and the guys responded. I think the council is a part of that. Just being able to take a look at what these guys are going through now and how maybe a voice from the past - maybe somebody they respect or somebody that has a great message - that's the role for guys like us."
Light, though, would like to see the athletic department "embrace more of an open ended spirit and not so much a conservative attitude on how they approach certain things in the sports realm."
