Enough with the line-up of Hill, Ray, Vince, Biggie, and Haas! Please! The offense is at its worst with that combination! I said it before the season that Ray and Hill never should be on the court together at the same time and it is certainly shaping up too look that way. A combination of one or more of Cline/Stephens/Mathias must be on the court at all times for the offense to flow properly.

I also read that people think having Biggie and Haas together is a problem. Totally disagree. Spacing and passing lanes are fine with them due to Swanni's talent and Haas' great improvements. The problem is when you surround those two with average to below average shooters in Ray and Hill. Don't get me wrong Ray has gotten better but he isn't going to got 4/8 from beyond 3 night in and night out but C/S/M can and will!

Stop with the Hill/Ray starting line-ups Matt. The offense doesn't work with those two on the court together!

You're really struggling to complain about something, aren't you.

Don't get me wrong, I LOVED this game from start to finish. But we could have had even more if we started the halves with different line-ups! Hill and Davis just don't need to be on the floor together. The most successful people are always looking to improve and analyze the details. Having those two on the court together hampers the offense.

Nice to see all of the IU trolls trying to find something bad about this team. Even if the only thing they can find is upset fans who happen to be IU fans worried already because it seems we can indeed shoot from deep.

Unbelievable! Hill is playing in his second game and YOU know that the combination is not going to work. Having coached for over 15 years, I always used the first several games to figure out which combos would work (and I didn't have near the variety and depth that Matt has).

First off not an IU troll but ok w/e it was funny to be accused of being one. I nit-pick with this team b/c I can. With the football team, finding a positive is like finding a needle in a hay stack. But with the Bball team, they are so talented and smart, finding a weakness is much more difficult but still do-able. Like I said successful people are always looking at the details. The starting line-up is not conducive to the best offense we can play and will be exploited by better teams all day long. Am I saying not to play Hill? NO! I am just saying to not play Hill and Davis together. No spacing. For the guy who has been a coach for 15 years, you of all people should understand that lol.

I think he's just trying different line-ups to see what works early. If he's going to do it, this is the time to experiment.

Insert Hammons for Haas and I think that Painter is starting his best line-up. Edwards, Davis, and Swanigan are all spacing the floor well, and it's a strong defensive line-up to counter the opposition's top five players. I think we'll see this line-up get off to better scoring starts as the season progresses. I also like the roll that Stephens is playing of being the initial spark off of the bench.

Thank you BoilerDaddy and GemstateBoiler for reasonable responses. I don't think its a horrific line-up but just not the best we can do from an offensive standpoint as I have said. I am willing to sacrifice some defense this year as I think we can be a stellar offensive team and decent enough on defense (especially with AJ on the back end). I would rather see Hill spot Davis and lead the bench guys with energy and defense. Only time will tell though. If this starting 5 get us to a FF, I will eat crow but I think Mathias or Thompson should be starting over Hill every game to keep a constant flow of offense.

You may be right about it not being the best offensive line-up, but it's no secret that MP is a defense-first coach. Every year it seems that his goal is to set the tone defensively before he brings in his offensive weapons.

No way you could have been a coach for 15 years and be this big of a fool.

I think we will need Hill and Ray together once we start playing teams with more than one guard with elite quickness. The shooting specialists will not always hit shots as well as today... We will need the defense to anchor us. IMO. And Ray and Vince are actually doing pretty well from behind the arc aren't they? When those teams with the quick guards rest them, then our shooters will come in and hit 3's against the subs. Now, if Mathias proves he's quick enough, the he could get the nod at PG, especially if he keeps shooting like against Vermont.

I also am intrigued by the Mathias at starting point guard possibility, but I won't be confident about it until I see him do a credible job against Big Ten starting point guards.
