Maryland at Purdue: MASTER DISCUSSION THREAD

36-31, Maryland at the half. Going to be a serious battle - Boiler have to come out strong from the get go this second half.

13-35 - 37.1%; 2-10 (3pt FG) 20% won't cut it. Just two turnovers - that's really good. trailing 16-25 on the glass 4-8 on offensive glass.....that's the biggest difference with Maryland not shooting well inside the arc and 5/14 from deep.

Three point-blank misses has also hurt Purdue - one leading straight to a Terps' runout.

Harris and Cox just aren’t ready

Team is in trouble

Need Smith and Colvin to take way more shots

So what I am seeing are two issues:

We are one deep at point guard and big man.

We don't have a good secondary ball handler/offense runner and we don't have anyone down low other than TKR who we can trust to consistently get a basket.

So teams are focusing on those two and no one else is consistently showing up to relieve the pressure and when they don't play flawlessly, we struggle.

For this team to succeed, some of these players have to step up into larger roles.

Cox needs more PT for added depth, like I said after the Final last yr give Furst the talk and get a 6'8, 6'9 replacement from portal.

Hate to say it, but I think we might have reached our peak beating Bama and that tourney with NCST and OleMiss. We will win some great conference games, but ultimately, I also think we will be a bubble team.

Purdue just isn't as athletic as most B10 teams, nor do we have consistent options to score.
The word is out: pressure the ball against our guys, and opponents have a much better chance to win, and as we know, this has been our achilles heel since CMP came on board (I still shudder at memories of Little Rock's press).

Loyer keeps passing up shots to drive into trouble and I don't understand given how ridiculously good he's been from three

Killing me Boilers - turnover for two.....but Fletch bombs one!

Yikes - Heide misses another open look. Another roller coaster and more myocardial cells are toast....haha.

Yep Im coming to this realization as well. If Burgess and cox dont step up this is going to be a rough season.
