Marve

@TC4THREE I can't find the article now, but figured you'd be happy to know Purdue's lord and savior, Robert Marve, said he will be around Purdue a lot since he played with Brian Brohm and views him as a mentor.

Maybe Marve could be convinced to be a GA? I believe a lot of people, talking heads included, thought he would make a good QB coach one day when he was done playing.

I have to believe that CJB won't stand for much of him around the program.

Why not? He had his issues at Miami but was a great example of someone who made the most of his second chance. He worked hard, always said the right things, and seemed like a great teammate. It's too bad for the injuries because he had a lot of talent and was a good leader. Marve should have never been benched for TerBush. I'd love to have someone like that involved with Purdue. Additionally, his name still carries weight in Florida and would not hurt recruiting one bit.

Let's just say that I have a very different perception of him than yours.

I have a different take. Sometimes it's good to have bad and shady people around to say positive things about your program. Ever notice your drug and rehab counselors are mostly former addicts? Regardless of his past, if he has something positive to say or contribute I welcome him. If he has PEDS and other drugs in his pockets, stay away.

He was a teammate and friend of Brian Brohm in the CFL so I have no clue where you get something like this from. You are obviously way off base as you have nothing to base this on. You must just be a Marve hater.

Ha. If you only knew what you didn't know........

You could divulge if you wanted to back up your claims. I have met Robert on two occasions and I had great conversations with him about his time in Miami and Purdue along with his wishes for the future if football didn't work out as he had originally planned. Although his time in Miami was tenuous (at best), when I spoke to him he seemed like a young man who was actively working towards setting himself up for his adult life as best as he could. He was a talented young man who came to Purdue and was (by all accounts) a good teammate. If you have other information, I would love to hear it as it would provide a view from a potentially opposite side. The truth probably lies (as it always does) some where in the middle with stuff like this.

If Marve and Brohm were teammates, I would have to believe Brohm already knows more about his personal faults than any of us do. If he doesn't want Marve around, I'm confident he will privately tell him. And how to interact with our team going forward.

Even I'm aware that Mavre had issues in Miami other than injuries. But he also had talent, and maybe some pitfall stories he could share like don't follow the path I took.

If that's the impression he's given other people then fine. I'll let him have it. Nothing to be gained at this point by dropping a bomb here.

Marve was a model student, teammate and athlete while at PU. Everyone that ever met Nevin Shapiro at Miami was tainted to some degree. Shapiro was a convicted felon who tried to get his sentenced reduced and made false charges against alot of people. The worst thing that Shapiro claimed that actually stuck regarding Marve, was buying him drinks and taking him to a strip bar.

Dropping a bomb?
There may be nothing to gain for an anonymous poster, but to call out and tease info several times in one thread about a former student athlete deserves more.

This old man has grown tired of reading about personal attacks and complaints of our players on the basketball board. Now I come here and see Marve, who is how many years removed, getting thrown under the bus?
Why?
Let alone preemptively questioning Coach Brohm to possibly include him, before it even happens?

SMH.
I thought our fan base was collectively better than that. Hopefully we can treat our Purdue kids with respect. And on the chance there is something they should be called out on, why not grow some balls and say it.

I think the only "bomb" tc4three will be dropping is the 1 in his little tighty whiteys as he try's to talk his way out of this thread

The negative people in our fan base do a lot of damage with all their negative bullsh**. To attack Marve is stupid. He is friends with Brian Brohm and nothing said on here will change that. Marve will always be welcome and wanted back at Purdue in my book! Go Brohm! Go Marve! Go Purdue!

Talk my way out of what? I stand by everything I've ever said about Marve in this thread or previously. There's a reason I was tagged in this thread to begin with. People who were on the premium board back when Marve was here know my disdain for him.

I'm not attacking him. I just don't like him and have reasons for such. Attacking him would be sharing with others those reasons and trying to convince others not to like him. I don't care what others want to think about him. I just would be extremely disappointed if we bring a person like him back into the program. I'm very excited about the Brohm era at Purdue and would like that to continue.

If you are not attacking him then it is probably best to not say anything at all. As far as I can tell Marve was very popular among Boiler fans and to say anything negative just sets an old issue on fire once again. Since Marve is an old issue now, why polk the bear while it's sleeping?

As someone who knows Marve on a very personal level, I can confirm that once again @TC4THREE is full of sh*t. He likes to act like he knows more than everyone else on here, but in reality he makes crazy assumptions and tries to pass them off as facts. Marve being around this team should be very helpful. He has been down in Florida training QBs and has helped train some very highly rated recruits. Don't buy in to TCs "inside info" on "bombs".

I want to start by saying I am a BIG Marve fan. I was, I am, and I'll always be. One of the most painful things I've ever watched in sports was the many knee injuries Marve suffered. We were denied the full talent of a truly great QB! I can't wait to see him back on campus at Purdue. I hope we'll see him hanging around for some spring practice. Marve had a cannon for an arm to go along with the heart of a lion.

Oh look. A Marve nut-hugger here to defend his honor. That's original.

I've not made any assumptions. I know what I know. I've seen what I've seen. I've heard what I've heard. I'm not an insider by any means but that doesn't prevent me from having experiences that give me insight into different people.

As far as Marve being beneficial to this team. That gave me a huge laugh. Ignoring what type of person he is, he just wasn't that good of a player anyway.

I get that you probably have some sort of relationship with Marve and that is the highlight of your life. I get that the more he is relevant the more important you feel. All that actually brings your credibility into question doesn't it? I have nothing to gain or lose when it comes to Marve. I'm not a friend. I'm not an agent. His success and failure doesn't impact me at all. My opinion of him is what it is and is based on my own experiences AND I am not the only person that doesn't have much respect for him based on how he acted at Purdue.

Lol. You get called out for being a douche and being wrong and you get so triggered. Your weak attempt at attacking me doesn't make you any less of an idiot. You can believe what you believe. Judging by how much time you spend posting stuff on this board I'm pretty sure you have nothing better to do with your time. You have no information on this subject, so your opinion is not nearly as important as you think it is.

I've got news for you. When my stance is that I don't like or respect Robert Marve, there's nothing you can do to prove that wrong. Keep on being a Marve nut-hugger though. That is FAR more sad than me having a bunch of posts over a 15 year stretch.

Whatever helps you sleep at night. I'll let you get back to posting more "Fire Jay Wright!" threads and being an embarrassment for our fan base. Have a good weekend sitting at home.

did marve steal your gf? Honestly, outside of that I can't imagine why you would have such s strong vendetta against a guy who was never a problem at Purdue.

Ha I doubt Marve is going around looking for women my age to try to steal. Although I may be underestimating his age. Wasn't he about 35 by the time he was done at Purdue?

Not only did you take the bait of the original poster, you have chosen to repeatedly reply in a negative manner about Marve. Then you even name call fellow fans who attempt to speak positively. Why not just ignore it, rather than dig the hole deeper?

Based on vague, negative insinuations, readers are left to wonder whether he did something petty like decline signing an autograph or shoved his way around you in Harry's. Or was it something serious, possibly even criminal? I do not see how that is responsible or right. No matter what the incident was, people can and do change anyway. He apparently has not been given that benefit of the doubt either.

It is one thing to share ill feelings toward a player of the past and on a premium board. But this is years later, and this board is available to the public. Hopefully, if any of the Marve's or Brohm's read this, they know a few of these isolated, negative fans do not represent a majority of Boilermakers.

Marve seemed to give his all for Purdue. He probably contributed more to the program in his limited time than many of us here combined. Fortunately, many still thank him rather than ridicule him for that.

Kyle Williams contributed more to the football team than I ever will too. Doesn't mean I like him.
