I come in peace Boiler fans! My 80 yr old father, my 16 yr old son and myself are making a trip to West Lafayette from Iowa. Any suggestions on what to do and what NOT to do? Parking suggestions would be beneficial. We will be there to have a bite to eat prior to the game. Is it possible to get into Mackey Arena? Thank you! I'm sure we'll all see a very competitive game.

I would suggest parking in Intramural Field Lots located just southwest of stadium. Good tailgating area or take-in pre-game band concert at Slayter Hill band shell nearby. If you like nature, stroll along trails in wooded Horticulture Park across the street of Intramural Lots on west edge of campus. Mackay is usually open to public on game days, I believe.

I haven't been able to get into Mackey on football game days. However, if you see an usher inside...perhaps a plead that you are from Iowa with your 80+ year old father and would like to see the shrine...maybe they will let you in? There are many $20/$30 dollar places due west of the stadium a couple of blocks by individual owners...or you can park in the engineering mall parking garage and pay $20 and it too is about a 4 block walk or so. Good luck...on your parking...and game experience.

We were new to Purdue fandom last year. Our daughter is a sophomore this year and have another daughter probably coming to Purdue next year. I feel a little guilty that we have enjoyed the past two years so much and didn't have to live through the previous ten years of mediocrity or less. When not tailgating, we park in the garage at University and 3rd street for $20. This puts you about 3-4 blocks from the stadium and Slayter Hill where the band plays a concert 90 minutes before kickoff. We love the band and follow them for a brief walk to the stadium after Slayter. This link is from the school site and is full of good information. Have a great visit. https://purduesports.com/sports/2018/8/23/football-gameday-central.aspx

McGraws Steakhouse on Friday night, triple xxx, Scotty’s Brewhouse, Harry’s and maybe a Boiler Black or Boiler gold at the union tap room.
Make sure you ride the Boikermaker special (train mascot) on gameday. Rides are free right in front of the Purdue arch.

Boiler Up and good luck Saturday.

Thank you to all. Cant wait to get there. We will be traveling from the north. Do you recommend HWY 43 (NRiver Rd) to the stadium off of 65? My question...is 43 too busy on gameday?

Iowa fan parking is over behind the Staley plant.

unfamiliar with that. If I were coming from the north and I'm not, I might take 65 south to 25 w pull off on 25 for about a mile and take 52 north (west) for about 4 or 5 miles and then turn south on Salsbery 2-3 mile ??until about due east of the stadium a couple of blocks. Anyone come from the north with better suggestions?

Yes - that’s a nice easy trip down the river. Should be pretty right about now.

That's the best route from the north via I-65. River Road [formerly Indiana 43] is the quickest, least-traveled and most scenic and leads directly downtown to the best restaurants. Drivers in town can turn west through neighborhoods to the stadium area or continue south to State Street, head west, wave at the Breakfast Club and cruise around campus.

I would come in that way for sure from the North.

You can get into Mackey through the athletic ticket office entrance which is open most of the day on game days.

If you enjoy walking around campuses, be sure to check out the Engineering Mall. Would also recommend taking a ride on the Boilermaker special. Free on gamedays, located right outside of the Neil Armstrong Hall of Engineering.

I come from the north, and I take the IN43 exit.

Beyond that, it all depends on parking and time of day, but I would NOT go all the way to State Street, as scenic as the drive is. UNLESS you want to park near the Union in the Grant Street garage (which is a decent option if not tailgating).

We always turn right on Soldiers Home Road, then go up the hill. This will dead end at a T intersection, turn left (still Soldiers Home Road). Take that to Sagamore Parkway, turn right to go west. This will put you in a game day flow, you'll turn left at Yeager Road (normally temporary double left), then go through the roundabout onto southbound Northwestern.

For cash parking they'll have you turn right (west) on Lindberg, then left (south) on McCormick to the cash Intramural Field lots.
