Luke Ertel new Ranking

He has blown up quickly with recent play. Well-deserved. That said, with Coach Painter's reputation now, I wonder how much of the rating surge is due to performance and how much could be from the fact he is coming to Purdue. There was a day that the latter didn't matter as much, but obviously it does now. Our program and it's recent history of developing players has impressed those Gods of Pinnacle Ratings.

Hell, there was a day that committing to Purdue saw your rating go down (I used to track that once upon a time). Now, I think Coach Painter gets the benefit of the doubt often.
He has been fantastic at numerous AAU events and other camps like thr NBA Top 100, or w.e its called, against elite competition. Completely owned Mullins in the Jr/Sr Indiana All-Star game.
I doubt it has anything to do with him going to Purdue and everything to do with his performance.
He has excelled against some of the best. He has fully earned his ranking.
As for Painter, he has always spotted elite talent before any big name program did. He was one of the first to offer Holgren before he went to Gonzaga! He was the first to offer Jacobsen! Painter’s only problem in the past was the players he identified chose to go to other schools. But now Painter is closing the door and signing those elite players!

This. Painter has embarrassed the rating services so many times, they have to give him the benefit of the doubt. At the very least, they take a closer look at Purdue recruits to see what Painter sees.

Or he’s consistently recruited elite talent, ratings be damned. Now ratings and recruits “talent level” is actually aligning with regards to Purdue.
I like the enthusiasm for painter but he was not the first to offer Jacobsen or even Ertel. He does have an eye for talent though, he is a very active recruiter and has a pretty broad network of support including Dakota Mathias, Bruce Parkinson, etc. he even found cox by accident.

Are Jaden Ivey, Zach Edey, Carsen Edwards, Braden Smith, Biggie Swanigan and the baby boilers not elite?
It makes me nervous that Duke, UK, or BYU will come knocking with a truckload of cash.
Luke doesn’t strike me as one who would do that…but if they did, he earned it. But he’d be at a much better situation at Purdue.
He will for sure win Mr Basketball unless some else goes wild during HS season. Recruiting rankings don’t really move all that much because of HS play - AAU season is when all the scouts are watching.
If he keeps up his performance this summer and leads Indy Heat to high finish in the Adidas league - he could jump a few more spots.
I don’t know. They do have truckloads of cash, but they also have a lot of mouths to feed and Purdue will be freeing up a lot of cash. In the long run, I think Ertel may make more at Purdue where there is a great history of developing productive, but initially off the radar, players like him.
This is my hope. Nobody knows how long Meyer will stick around, Smith is obviously gone after next season, and hopefully he's loyal to the commitment. Plus, Purdue actually seems to be a national program these days. I keep seeing people in Purdue gear all over the country and at airports all over Europe. Next up, win that chipper.

Painter wasn’t the first? I noticed you didn’t embarrass yourself by saying who was! My entire point was not that Painter was technically the first player to offer any player their first offer, but rather that that he can identify talent long before other legitimate coaches do!
As for the first offers, You’d be amazed at how early those decision 2 And lower level schools extend offers!
As for missing out on elite players, you only listed less than ten. And the ones you listed were not top 10 ranked players when they signed with Purdue. You forgot to include all the ones that said no and painter didn’t even give them an offer because they had already said no. Did Painter give the boozer twins an offer? How about Harper? Were they not good enough? Or did painter already know their minds were made up?
All the fans ever see are the offers. And the targets! The fans never see the attempts that failed so offers were never even extended! For every yes, there are over 1,000 nos. Do you honestly believe painter only contacts and recruits those players he gives offers to?
Painter was recruiting Jabari Parker and Cliff Alexander Did he give either player an offer? I guess you could say since they didn’t reject an offer, They didn’t reject Painter. The real truth was their minds were already made up. They had no intention of playing for painter or Purdue.
Look at Ertel. He made the top 52! However, there are 50 other players better than him that are not interested in Purdue! You could say Painter was not interested in those other 50 players and you could say he is not recruiting them and he has not interest and it’s his decision not there’s. But you would be lying. He’s interested in those other top 50 players. They just aren’t interested in Purdue!
Purdue has attracted better talent under painter, but the vast majority of the top 10, top 20 and top 50 are still looking elsewhere.

No cuz they wouldn’t fit his system and they’re one and done or at least one is. They’d probably want the offense around them and want more money than we are willing to give to first year guys. They’re unproven. Probably would blow up the team if we went after them.

They are good for sure. Takes more than 2 players and painter isn’t after one and dones like Duke…unless they’re a great fit
