LSU interested in Crean

That might actually be a good opportunity for Cream. A resource rich program that has attracted talent in the recent past. Not a lot of perennial powers in the SEC.

I've never quite understood why LSU is such a boom and bust program.

I think Crean has a chance there. A lot of us didn't think Crean would get fired because he had a lot of excuses this year: loss of veterans, injuries and etc. Those outside of B1G might feel that his firing didn't have much to do with his competency.

Who knows, he might even thrive there. Much resource with less pressure and competitions. Now that he is not an IU coach, I wish him well. Only until his team meets Purdue in the NCAA tourney, of course.

Maybe UAB or Texas Tech will hire him. Haven't they had good luck with former IU coaches?

reminds me of USC a bit.

Honestly, that would be a great gig for Crean. Louisiana has talent that typically gets poached out and a recruiter like Crean might be able to get those kids locked in. Rebuilding a program in the SEC would seem much easier than the B1G.

Calipari is in the SEC and Crean chose not to play UK anymore. He'd have to have a clause in his contract that he could have a sick day when UK came to town.

You also said IU wasn't going to fire him.
Yes I did. And may I point out that Doyle said Fred Glass said the same thing to him one week before he fired Crean and stated that Crean was "his coach" and "has a contract" to be IU's coach.

The word was, and I stand by what I predicted and by the person who told me Crean was safe and would be given one more year.

Fred Glass has a right to do what he....or his bosses...choose(s) to do, and a right to change his/their minds. Others on this board, and even the IU board were saying the same as I said up to the day the word came out.

Where's your post about all the others who said the same thing?

You and your friend were both wrong. You need to just admit that and move on

LSU is a football school. They don't care about basketball.

LSU is a football school. They don't care about basketball.

That's undoubtedly true, at least to a point. But I don't think it fully explains why a school with the resources and recruiting base of LSU has managed to log four 20-loss teams in the past two decades. Especially when you consider LSU has twice made the Final Four during the 64-team era.

I mean, Alabama and Florida are also football first schools. They manage to be generally respectable on the hardwood. But, the perennial all-or-nothing Tigers have had more losing seasons than NCAA tournament appearances over the past 20 years, and only once during that span have they made consecutive NCAA appearances.

Sure.... he can lock them down like he did the Hoosier Talent.

Other than Tulane and La Tech...what major programs are in LSU's backyard? Crean is good at recruiting and that alone can win you games in the SEC...to his credit he isn't a complete idiot or he would never have been coaching at Marquette or IU...granted he is a huge dufus but that man isn't stupid.

The question is, would Crean be willing to recruit "SEC $tyle"??

I am pretty sure Dale Brown was willing to get his hands a wee bit dirty back in the day...

They would if they could string a few good seasons together. LSU has killed them selves by not investing in basketball. I live down here and if there is a game on they will go does not matter much what type of game. Take a look at their baseball attendance.

Someone get Danny Etling to talk them out of this non sense. Random thought now: I watched a lot of LSU games last year rooting for Etling. Anybody else pulling for Etling hard next season too?

What is interesting is that there are only two openings in the P-5 conferences (OSU and Cal). I do not see Crean as a candidate for either. VCU, GWU and UMass are the only other large schools of note with openings. I do not see him there either. I expect an ESPN gig for him.

agree with this. also, LSU is a football school first.....and always will be. Good situation for a basketball coach. Be a bit better than avg and get to the tourney most years and a coach will be safe there.

Not if ESPN ever covered a post game presser with Crean. Mike Davis is better than Crean. Who wants to hear an idiot breakdown a game he doesn't understand. I still remember his preseason ramblings about how they were going to get out and run. This guy belongs coaching at one of the small conferences where defense is optional.

That may be where he should be, but I am telling you where I think that he will be.

There are many analysts that are quite incomprehensible on TV. That doesn't seem to hinder them so why should it Crean?

I agree with most of what you post, but I just can't see Crean doing color for a game he doesn't understand. Can you imagine him trying to explain the Syracuse zone?

Wouldn't be the first former IU coach that was fired and then hired by ESPN commentary for a game he didn't understand...see Lee Corso
