I have seen Purdue fluctuate between the 4 and 5 line over the last few weeks. I got me thinking, what was the lowest seed given to the big ten regular season champ? Indiana was the 5 last year, but wondering if it has ever been worse than that?

I haven't seen lower than a 5-seed. Here's from a previous post concerning lack of top-ten Big Ten champions:

(rankings in parentheses)

2003 (Wisconsin (21) champ, Illinois (11)) - Illinois was a 4-seed, Wisconsin a 5-seed.

2002 (Illinois (13) tri-champ) - 4-seed.

The conference still ended up with a team in the FF in 2002, and Regional Finalist in 2003.
