Self-imposed ban basically means "please don't look into this matter any further, it could get a lot worse for us."

It doesn't really work like that but the allegations were from 2011 to 2014. I'm guessing the NCAA thinks this is enough although they do like to put their own stamp on these things so some scholarship losses may also show up before all is over. Sorry, but this doesn't cut it for me. Kids recruited during this time period were recruited illegally. Hence any games won with these kids should be forfeit. Nothing less than this should satisfy the NCAA. I am not so naive to think this is the first time hookers have been used to recruit, but it is the first time it has been so well documented and so blatant. In fact, the assistant coaches involved should be under a show cause order for rehire into CBB. The fact that Petino didn't know is a joke, considering the man is a control freak for other aspects of the L'Ville basketball program.
Yea I agree. You self-impose a punishment in hopes of getting off lighter than what you would get if you waited for the NCAA. The fact that Louisville chose to self impose an NCAA ban at a time where they are a top-20-NCAA-lock in a wide-open college basketball world tells me that whatever they've uncovered is pretty messy. Maybe them and SMU can schedule a game in late March.
Between them and SMU that's two teams that realistically could be ranked ahead of us at the end of the regular season. Could result in a better seed line for us.
