Louis King. Five Star has Purdue in top 8

I know little to nothing about him, but playing the 4 at PU and being a 5-star has little downside in his class. If he's that good, he'll go 1st round and PU is fine for accomplishing that. Our offense has proven to be solid for that. He will learn D which really is important for his future (no need to debate with me on this). And he can have an immediate starting spot on a good team with solid guard support. Hope springs eternal.

Nice to see we are expanding our recruiting even more. I think it is a win that we are even in his Final 8. I don't expect to land him. However, to go into Jersey City (essentially) NYC and to make the final 8 of a East Coast city kid says a lot about who we think we could potentially land and what we think about ourselves. I like it. That in and of itself is a change and a win IMO. We are probably playing up Biggie and how he was a 5 star and how we played through him and he's in the NBA as a 20 year old. Purdue = great facilities, great trainers, great coaches, fewer distractions (than say another big city - eg staying at home) to fully concentrate on his dream and we have data to show that we can get you there.

Going up against some pretty heavy hitters (Kansas, UCONN), but the others, I think we are on par with as far as program quality.

Agree with pharout in that he starts from Day 1 on a team (probably as the center piece) on a team with good quality around him (yet nothing that could potentially distract not playing through him). It would be a coup to land him, but nice to see that we are spreading our reach and going for a select few of these blue chip recruits.

Now THAT is an eclectic final 8. Oregon has a need, but is a continent away. Maryland has two 4-stars at that position, one in his class. NC State has a huge need for him. Seton Hall has NO ONE ahead of him, but ... really??? Kansas has lower ranked players ahead of him. UConn has little ahead of him. And us. Congrats to the coaches. I'm proud to be in his final 8. It looks like he is using great logic in his decision.

Langford was also on that USA team with Carsen...to no avail.
He did toss him a nice alley oop in the sparing minutes Romeo played.

It was interesting to see him have Kentucky on his list because most reports said he didn't care for Cals style.

I ain't trying to be negative I'm just saying it's no big deal until we're in their final two. Then that tells me we have a legitimate chance.

Both Rivals and 24/7 list King as a small forward. they also list him as 6'7/6'8. I'd love this guy to replace V Edwards; even more so if Painter played him at Sf. I looked at his 8 choices, and at Sf, all of the other teams have at least 3 other players at his projected position, and Purdue reflects only one - I'm guessing Wheeler. I really want this guy, even more than Hunter. I've often said your best recruiter is a player. Here's hoping Carsen can influence him.

A related note, when looking up his stats, I noticed Williams was listed at only 6'8. both Castleton and Dow were listed at 6'10. is Williams being projected as a PF? with Taylor and Haarms projected as centers?

maybe out of respect for Carsen, Langford decided to take his games elsewhere. I'm not saying Langford feared the competition. But if Langford did come to Purdue, he'd be taking a chunk of Carsen's and Eastern's minutes.

Spinning it this way is just embarrassing .

It would suck to have the glass half empty attitude. Constantly being negative about things that haven't happened. Those types of people are such a joy to be around. I have a sister that acts that way, and I hate holidays because of it.

I agree that it looks like King has the quickness to play the 2/3 and I hope Purdue sells him on playing time available at his most likely NBA position.

I think Williams playing the 4 depends on his lateral quickness on D. I know the broken foot and weight gain have slowed him this summer, but right now he looks like an undersized 5. If he can get into shape and improve ability to defend quicker players, he could hopefully slide to the 4 as a Bonzi Colson/Draymond Green type of player. Not saying he will be that good, but Purdue could use him the same way. I've been impressed in some of his highlights with his passing and ability to drive from peremiter and create for someone his size.

in North Jersey, Seton Hall still is big for hoops and I think play at MSG which is a thrill for any one. It's a Joisey thing.

HA, thanks, I have a friend in Joisey - never understand the things he does - at least now I have an explanation.

Had to laugh at the Joisey thing. Friend from Purdue was Upper Saddle River and so Joisey hit home.

It is my belief that you don't have to have a 100% back to the basket player. You may or may not to play that way at any time. You do need to have at least one player that can play "some" of the game with his back to the basket per possession for 90% of the game. You will need those players to be able to defend down low though. I personally prefer two solid fours rather than a 4 and traditional 5. Both both fours need to be able to play with their back to the basket and go out to 15..and then you can take whatever match-up advantage (in or out) you have on O and keep the spacing. Michigan had that last year

Madison Square Garden in NYC is not the home of Seton Hall basketball. It is the Prudential Center in Newark. SH does play some games in MSG, e.g. against St John's and in the Big East Tournament, but that is not their "home court".

Total agreement. Love that game. It appeared to be where we are headed after Haas graduates.
