Looks like Brohm gone.

Maybe, but we haven’t found one that’s effective at Purdue since Tiller, and Brohm was continuing to build. Prior to Tiller, I understand it was also a very long sad road.

I continue to maintain as I have for years, The only way to find success at Purdue in the Big Ten is through a highly strategic passing game. The previous couple of coaching hires make me cringe when I think about what could be coming. We need to go after somebody in the same mold, more or less.

Expansion to a 12-team playoff helped make this happen. The Big 10 is clearly a better conference than ACC, but being weaker, many know Louisville offers an easier path to the expanded playoff than Purdue, especially considering the addition of USC and UCLA. Being a coach that is wanting to beat the Big Ten 's best should be motivation enough, but not for Brohm, and perhaps wisely so. He is not going to have to recruit as hard or fight for attention in a crowded Big Ten and crowded state.

Considering their coach left to Cincinatti, viewing it as a better program than Louisville, but with Brohm in the same breath viewing it as a better program is interesting. I actually think Fickell had better regular path to playoffs at Cincinatti, compared to Wisconsin, because he cemented their visibility, and was being handed a regular play-in through Cincinatti moving to a weak Big 12 slate, where he could add a few OOC games to strengthen schedule.

At the end of the day, yes Brohm wants to go back home, but the B1G's president pushing this ridiculous expansion with USC & UCLA, started a ball rolling that may not have moved without it.

This is expected and fine. He foreshadowed this last summer with his comments that he could leave now after six years. Purdue needs a coach who is pleased to be at Purdue (e.g. Painter).

And I don't really enjoy watching his team do stupid things game after game or hearing what an ass his operations coach brother is.

There are lots of good coaches out there, and the people at Purdue (Berghoff and Bobinski) making the hire know what the hell they are doing (i.e. France Cordova will not be involved) and care deeply about the success of Purdue athletics.

I'd like a coach that instills some player discipline to eliminate all our stupid personal foul penalties.

I've also gone on record as saying I'd love a boring coach and a boring offense, if it translated to winning. I believe every fan would love our next coach if he went 9-3 every year. Iowa fans seem to love their boring coach.

Yes, boring offense in theory if you are Michigan or OSU ability to out-recruit everybody for OL and DL, but that has never been the case at Purdue. Even Michigan and OSU have gone up tempo, and that is what Purdue is known for. And that his why they targeted Brohm in the first place.

Brohm will have a higher salary cap at UL. The banner recruiting class he is inheriting there is bought and paid for.

Coach Satterfield left UofL because the AD refused to give him a raise or extend his contract. Given the choice of a 2 year contract at $3.5 million per year or a 6 year contract at $3.5 million per year, which would you choose?

Satterfield left Louisville because the AD wouldn’t give him an extension. He saw the writing on the wall. Smart move, but the football resources are much better at Louisville than UC, particularly with NIL.

that was also the key to Tiller's early success. he had an offense that the other BIG 10 teams had not played against or recruited the right type of players to defend against. Eventually, the big boys learned their lessons.

the key to success is creating a mismatch that other teams are unprepared to play against.

if you look at it, Brohm recruited players that matched his system. and his system was successful against a lot of teams.

on the other hand, iowa and UW have recruited players to match their system, and they have also been very successful. the fans at UW and Iowa loved barry Alvarez and hayden Frye primarily because they won. Purdue fans love Tiller because he won.

that's why I say winning is far more important than the style of football you play. at the end of the day, fans love the W a lot more than 600 pasing yards. Fans love a RB going on a 85 yard TD run just as much as a 75 yard pass play. .

Yes, but identity as a program is important. "Crade of QB's", "Den of Defensive Ends" - Style matters

That's a step down, regardless of salary. Louisville is a glorified commuter school.
Total nonsense. My kid goes to UofL. The facilities are fantastic. And if you think it’s a step down, call your AD and encourage him to schedule a home/home with us. Should be an easy win for you, no?

In a vacuum Louisville has nice facilities. They are not Big Ten level. Purdues weren’t until recently as well. Be happy you got your coach and go celebrate. Don’t be the guy to turn on Brohm after a couple bad games.

Being reported by multiple outlets in the past hour, including ESPN.

Bummer.
After the last 48 hours, I have given this some thought.

I would rather have someone who WANTS to be at Purdue and in the Big Ten than someone who prefers to be somewhere else. For examle, Gene Keady and Joe Tiller were not Purdue Alums but they WANTED to be here and in the Big 10. That is the type of candidate we should be looking for.

The B10 is a money making machine and coaches will be paid very well to be here in this league. The college football landscape has changed significantly over the past 10 years with more choice programs being added to the major conferences like the B10, SEC, B12, etc. Smaller conferences will be squeezed out of the playoffs while the bigger conferences will get into bowls/playoffs due to SOS. Imagine being a coach that plays regularly Michigan, OSU, PSU, etc. and soon USC and UCLA. Think of the recruiting potential.

Again, we should hire someone who wants to be here than preferring to be elsewhere once every few years.

If by “facilities“ you mean “athletic” facilities, Louisville has some of the finest in the nation. Is that what you’re referring to?

Why not go back to watching your horrid basketball team and stop worrying about what people on a Purdue board are saying?

Gene Keady is a Boilermaker through and through, but let's not forget that he almost left in 1988(?) to go to Arizona State and then later to San Francisco, I think.

Yes easy win for Purdue in basketball and football.
