Llewellyn to Princeton

Well I said of the 5 main players they were looking at they would be fortunate to land 1...still on schedule for that....with 3 still on the board......Embery, Hunter and Dowuona. Too bad on this kid though... He was my favorite.

Head scratcher for sure, but there are a lot of D1 schools out there. Someone should have told him Purdue was an Ivy League school. We get accused of it all the time anyway.
I have heard this a few times over the years in Texas too. This is kind of like Chasson Randle going to Stanford a few years ago, oh well.

This is tough as we certainly wanted this young man. He will never sniff the tournament bit his education will carry him far. Can't fault him for that
I would think CMP makes a full court press on Hunter at this point

Embery and Hunter is a heck of a consolation prize. Got to grab atleast one, but Hunter has great length and versatility that Painter loves. That and he can shoot very well already. THT is my favorite, but Embery is a close second. I also expect an offer extended to Henry soon. If Painter wants a wing, he needs to get on him now because he is starting to gain interest from other big programs.

Why will he never sniff the tournament? Princeton has a very solid program...they not only were in the tournament this past year, but, nearly beat ND and probably should have barring a couple of calls that did not go there way down the stretch.

Lol, I wasted 4 mins watching GBIs highlight video on front page just before seeing this.

Very interesting choice, but can't blame him for wanting Ivy League education.

Let's go get Hunter/Embry.
and Ahrens too.

When I came to Purdue from Georgia, many of my friends down south thought Purdue was an Ivy.

If we're recruiting the same player as an Ivy school, then I'm sorry, but the kid simply can't be that good.

That is total BS. I know kids that could play at a lot of D1 schools In a lot of sports but academics are more important if they are supper smart and plan to make their money in the real world.

You can settle the argument by looking up how many kids from ivy league programs is made it to the NBA and stayed in NBA

Right because no kid deserves a Big Ten scholarship unless they are going to have a 10-year NBA career. Brilliant!

I'm saying good kids go to Ivy League there's a lot of good kids that go there. And out of all the Ivy League schools especially Princeton. Princeton has made the NCAA tournament plenty of times. And when they get in they usually give the team that they play a real battle. My quote above I just said that before someone else did because I knew that was coming.

Why is that? Do you think an Ivy League school would shy away from a top player who is qualified to go there and has mutual interest?

Yes, I do. It would be rare to find a high major level talent who shuns big time programs to go to an Ivy school.
My guess is that the kid is good player, but not B10 good. That he's not committed enough to basketball to expect his career to go beyond college. There's nothing wrong with that, except if you're recruiting kids with Final Fours and National Championships in mind, you're probably not competing for kids that are also considering the Ivy league.

So I'm guessing this QB isn't very good either?

I think you might be making gross generalizations with little factual information. There are some damn good athletes in the Ivy League who could play anywhere. Congratulations to this kid. Glad we were in the mix for him.

History has shown that if an athlete is truly gifted, the pros will notice regardless of the school he attends. one of the NFL's greatest punters came from an Ivy league school. Bill Bradley had a far greater NBA career than any guard from Purdue. becoming an All-American in college and being successful in the pros takes a lot of work and effort. Larry Bird put forth a lot of effort to achieve his success. And he left IU for ISU. David Robinson played for NAVY ! I wonder who recruited him out of high school when he was only 6'6. Drew Breese chose Purdue

Princeton is a very good school academically. I'm sad he didn't choose Purdue. but I can't fault his decision if my family had the money, I would have gone to Northwestern and my son would have gone to Michigan.

Players going to the pros out of the Ivy league are the rare exception, as you show by going all the way back to Bill Bradley.
OK, I'll stand corrected. I just went and looked at the kid's offer list and I gotta say, I was wrong. He had offers from PU, OSU, UVA, UF, GTown and Wake. That's a pretty darn good offer list. Congrats to Princeton on this commitment. Beat out a lot of high majors.

This is why I feel that trying to guess what causes a recruit to pick a certain school is a crap shoot.

Hell, maybe he didn't come here because we were too close in proximity to gloomington. :)

Each of us chooses a school for different reasons. I chose Purdue for financial reasons. The financial aid I received was more than what UW and Northwestern offered. At the time, I really liked Northwestern's business school. if I was not a athlete, and the cost was equal, I would choose Princeton over Purdue.

Jeremy Lin (Harvard) is a more recent example of a basketball player who played for an ivy league team. A 2015 article indicated there were 19 ivy league players on NFL rosters.

You might be on to something. Or Purdue Pete as he is pretty intimidating with that sledgehammer.
So he needed a 'safe space' away from Pete? Ivy League school.. You might be onto something.

And the number of B1G were/are what over the same time period...just saying.

All I would do is stay in touch with the young man in whatever manner is allowed until he signs on the dotted line "IF" he is someone Purdue and Painter just has to have!
