Lineup changes you would make

WR- Bell starts over Sparks
WR - Wright starts over Anderson
WR- Taylor takes Anderson's spot on 2-deep

LG- McKenna starts over Criddle

Corner- Make sure Trice gets a lot of reps. Not sure I would have him starting yet but I really like him at the corner position.

Punt Returner- Sheffield starts over Moore
Punt Return team- Anyone reasonable starts over Horvath

I think Bell and Wright are the second and third best receivers on the team.

I was not particularly impressed with Anderson even though he had several catches. He really seems like more of a possession receiver and lacks that dynamic ability to get yards after the catch and make big plays.

Taylor is strangely forgotten for a 6-5 receiver that runs a verified 4.48 40.

The experiment to change Criddle from DT to LG doesn't seem to be going that well. I noticed him make several errors during the Nevada game and perhaps it's best to not invest more reps but to just play the next (hopefully younger) guy.

After the special team catastrophe Purdue should use a specialist punt returner like Sheffield and also take the starting RB Horvath off punt return(didn't Fuller get injured on special teams?).

How many practices have you been to?

Yeah... that was immediately my first reaction.

Then I recognized it's a fan forum, and this is a part of what we do here.

Regardless, these threads really serve little purpose. But, for some, it's still an interesting exercise.

No offense to anyone, but I find them boring and useless.

Something to consider;

It seems that the Athletic Dept has made a concerted effort for the last several months to heavily promote Moore for higher profile post season recognition. Even some marketing suggests they have sights set on Heisman. Purdue Sports Graphics,Football Video Dept, university social media platforms and SID Office are all involved.

Just like Desmond Howard did yrs ago, Moore needs touches each game from KR/PR and probably needs at least (2)TD returns to go along with 110-125 receptions to accomplish it or come close to getting invite to NY Waldorf Astoria in DEC. These benchmarks are not unrealistic-are they?

The publicity for the program from such an invite is immeasurable... doubt they pull RM from any special team units

He's one player that intrigues me. If he's good, what an asset!

Anderson had a really good camp from everything I have seen/read/heard and he had a very good game. 6 catches for 60 yards. Didn’t have the big play but he was incredibly consistent. No reason whatsoever to demote him. Especially not for 3 catches 21 yards and a fumble. There was a lot to blame for the loss but it certainly was not Anderson.

Criddle is starting because of his size and strength. I like McKenna and I want him to contribute as soon as possible, but I am not sure he is an upgrade over Criddle yet.

I like Trice as a nickel/corner. Very good athleticism and speed. If Mackey is getting beat, I don’t mind the swap occasionally in a game.

Moore is fine at PR. It is very unlikely he makes that mistake again and not much can match his speed and strength. The other team adjusted all punts we just weren’t prepared for that adjustment and we will be next time.

Agreed, particularly after 1 game. For the most part, no one had destructively bad complete games. The only line up changes that make sense at this point would be attitude issues, which seemed to be lingering.

Outside of Taylor’s measurables, what argument is there for him to jump sparks or Anderson?

No way Anderson get bumped. First career game and did quite well. Other than Wright’s fumble, I didn’t any of the receivers did too bad. I will admit though that I didn’t pay a lot of attention to their blocking.

Seconded. This thread is fruitless, but happens every time after a loss. Some fans get it in their head that they know better than the coaches but reality is if those fans were truly coaching this team, they'd make Hazell look like Vince Lombardi.

Moore can do those types of stats. However, it has to be in combination with team wins to get that invite.

Umm, the fact he is a possession receiver is kind of the point. No coach puts all deep threat receivers on the field at one point in normal conditions. You need the guy who moves the chains to free the home run hitters up to make the big play.

Anderson reportedly has shown up every day, played hard, catches ball in traffic, knows playbook as well as RM or JS, doesn't complain, will play hurt and has a great attitude.

Coaches love those qualities, even if he doesn't have measurables of a Bell or Wright. I trust coaches

Those are great reasons, makes sense

The same coaches that lost to Nevada and Eastern Michigan. They're not infallible, they have biases make incorrect decisions just like anyone else.
Sure they do. They also possess far more information than we do with regard to Taylor, etc. I wouldnt be surprised to see Wright and Bell starting. Wouldnt be surprised to see them as backups that play a lot all year either.

Taylor may still be a year away.

The guy played SOLID football last Friday. I was totally impressed with his play and size. He's earned that spot and in no way should be demoted.

He's 5'11 175 so I'm not sure why you're impressed with his size. There's a guy on the bench that's 6'5 205 and runs 4.48 verified 40 if you're impressed by size.

Anderson had some good catches but every time he caught the he stood straight up and didn't get yards after the catch. One of the plays was even whistled dead for forward progress.

I suppose that starting positions are a zero sum game. I really wasn't intending to demote Anderson as much as I was to promote some of the other wide receiver.

One game is no where near enough for fans to actually know who should play. And the freshmen and redshirt freshmen who haven't played, are seeing new situations and a totally different scenario, the game is fast, takes time .

Exactly, he played bigger than his measurements. Steve Smith says hello btw (Rondale too for that matter)

Demoting Anderson, who probably has the best hands on the team, after a game in which everyone else struggle to hold onto the football. I don’t think so Tim.

Anderson turned more catchable passes into incomplete passes than any other player in week 1. Bell is definitely better than Sparks or Anderson

I don’t recall these drops by Anderson. There were a couple passes thrown well behind him, one of which he turned into a great catch. He was finding open spots on the field and catching everything put on him (and holding onto the ball through contact). I’m high on Bell and Wright. They will take snaps from Sparks and probably some from Anderson as they get more experience.

I'm curious as to Ben Holts PFF grade for Nev game. I noticed Dienhart left that part out, and just mentioned that he had 7 tackles. I don't care how many tackles you make, how many third and longs are you giving up over the middle?
It's a bad look if Papa Holt continues to play junior, over more athletic options.

I’m surprised you’re downplaying spegal ... can’t he bowl over the NCAA, make himself eligible and go jerry rice on the big ten? He’s the National touchdown leader. What did Taylor ever lead the nation in?

Does spegal have the power to recreate himself and start at all 5 skill positions?

I won’t get into lineup changes I know nothing about.. in terms of the coaches and what they think about one player or another, but who would I like to see more of? As in... if I’m not seeing them, there’s a reason, but if I am, hey that’s great...

Alexander
Jones
Faucheux (coaches have to decide he’s ready but if they do, awesome)
K. Smith
Allen
DJ Washington
G. Miller (in Pittman’s minute role)
Doerue
Taylor

I’ll assume if I don’t see them, Brohm has decided it’s not time and that’s fine..
