I don’t know. Maybe it worked for them. I think tariffs worked for the US in the 2000s when Bush the Younger put a 10% tariff on China steel. Did not cause a trade war. Chump got too greedy trying to use tariffs for US income and it ain’t and will not work.

What about cutting government spending, eliminating waste like DOGE has been doing? They've saved the Govt billions in a very short timeframe.

HELL NO! It is often full-on government overreach to pick and choose which industries get tax incentives. Let the market determine how much people get paid. Giving waiters and bartenders a tax break over construction workers, teachers, Walmart clerks; you name it? WTF!
The primary justification I could accept for an industry-specific income tax break would be to incentivize an under-populated and necessary profession. Can't get enough farm workers or air traffic controllers because it's too demanding or too complex to attract quality candidates? Then; sure. But bartenders and such? Government overreach defined.

It's a fine line between cutting back bloated government programs (good) and arbitrarily eliminating necessary programs that won't heed to political wishes (bad).
IMO DOGE has done both of those things.
That DOGE is crap. Looking into so called corruption is one thing. But indiscriminately firing federal workers is a bunch of bull junk. That was proven that this was not well thought of when they fired workers that controlled our weapons. Then after a whoops moment hired them back. Most of the folks fired were folks that scored well on their performance reviews. A lot of those fired are military veterans. These folks have families to take care of. The money that you claim saved is just a drop compared to the total spending numbers. Just concentrate on why it cost the government $500 for a hammer.
Could have just downsized agencies by attrition; when people retire do not replace them. There are downsizing precedents for doing just that. Eliminates the arbitrary and politicized nature of who goes, will reduce the workforce by about 5% every year, and will get rid of the highest paid employees.
If spending was so important to this administration why is Chump attending sporting events that cost $15 to $20 million a pop.
If spending was so important to this administration why is Chump going to have a dumb military parade like authoritarian governments have. Cost in estimation of $45 million. A tank rides down the street. Who in the so and so cares? How is that saving money? Are you in favor of this dumb parade?
Yeah like a buyout to retire. Companies do this all the time. Or some kind of severance package for 6 months. I thought Chump was a good businessman. This is not how you treat folks that worked for years.

If you do NOTHING, but don't replace retiring workers, about 5% will leave each year. It's a 20 year career to pension eligibility (which many will immediately exercise upon eligibility), + some leave for private industry each year. That is easy, not arbitrary/politicized, gets rid of the highest paid workers, doesn't allow the process to be politicized, and is guaranteed to be an effective means of workforce reduction.

I think it's an overly simplistic view to assume that DOGE went in and started randomly eliminating govt programs and spending without a very thorough and deep analysis of the risk/reward. The MSM and libs have portrayed this as Musk throwing darts at board and if he hit a certain program, then it was eliminated. (and the gullible portion of the public bought into it).
Granted, some programs that were super heavy on DEI or things like giving US taxpayer money to support a trans opera in Peru were probably eliminated after ready a few sentences about the program, but that's probably a very small percentage of the cuts falling under those circumstances.
You and BNI are looking at govt jobs as being a lifetime guarantee of employment. Trump is looking at running the govt like a private business. That's a good thing.
I'm interested to see your sources on where these cost figures come from? If it's some commentator on Urban radio, I wouldn't put much faith in it.

You fell asleep in civics class in high school didn't you? The US government is a congressional republic. Running the US government like a private business does not work. May work in authoritarian governments in which Chump seems to admire.

I did not say that they were provided a severance package. I just thought that they should have been given a severance package. instead of just put out on the street. A lot of military veterans are federal workers.
None of this DOGE crap is getting the price of consumer prices down.
What is DOGE going to do about corporate greed like the Walton family raising prices at Walmart. Could be tariff related. Another bad decision by this jacked up administration.

again, a govt job is not a guaranteed job for life. Otherwise, show me where I can sign up so I can just kick back and collect a paycheck with unlimited job security.
So hairdressers, bartenders, waiters and waitresses, hotel workers.
Pretty sure those are the primary beneficiaries. Maybe I’m missing a couple of occupations, but that’s arbitrary and government overreach in my opinion.
Oh, and it’s not just world leaders that think Trump is a laughingstock. His own staff and cabinet mocks him behind his back all. the. time. When the president is old, fat, senile, easily manipulated and distracted, stupid, and plastered with 2 inches of orange drag queen makeup it happens.
