Worst loss in the history of sports? Debatable. Worst loss in the history of the PU athletic program absolutely. It will never be forgotten.
What’s worse? That team is garbage 15 Ls and didn’t even win their sorry conference. They got in because they lost to a team who wasn’t eligible for the damn tournament. I really really need to know what in the history of sports was a more embarrassing loss than that.

That Soviet team was one of the greatest teams assembled in the history of sports, and a bunch of college kids from Minnesota and New England beat them.
Purdue won't fire Painter..They never fire anyone...And our fan base isn't like some SEC schools that will throw money to get rid of a coach....Painter needs to stop going for the high character guy over the quick, athletic one...My view is that your scholarship is year to year...If it ain't working both sides move on and we recruit someone else...Every other major school does this....Cleary the portal isn't working for Painter either...You would think shooters would flock here to shoot wide open 3's
Worst loss in whatever? Sure. Whatever you want to call it. It’s epic. We suck.
Least surprising upset ever? Exactly. How did anyone not see this coming. Purdue is the biggest March Madness choker ever and the worst against a small, fast, press team. We’ve struggled against the press/trap all year. This was a done deal from the start.
I know. People keep we need a guard that can get their own shot like we didn't have Ivey (and Edey) last season. How many "NBA caliber" wings do we need to overcome our curse or whatever it is?
That would seem on the surface to be true and it might have been at one time but I’m not sure it is anymore. B10 style of play and officiating don’t seem to be yielding a lot of success in terms of final 4s and championships in recent years.

It's funny you mention the '80 USSR hockey loss to the USA because that is exactly what I think of when I think of "the absolute worst loss in sports history". Tonight was very bad, however. It was bad enough that we're legitimately debating whether it was the worst sports loss in history and, I admit, while bold, your statement can't be dismissed without some thought.
That we have to dig this deep to find anything remotely comparable tells you just how historic this collapse actually was.

What’s wild to me is, the FDU guards looked so much more athletic than Purdue. Other than Edey where did Purdue hold an advantage on the court they could consistently exploit? Also you guys won the Big Ten by 3 games this year and the conference tourney. Last Natty for the Big is going on 25 years, I’m starting to believe this league has been a step behind for awhile now.
Purdue looked tired and played tired, same script that has haunted Purdue the past few years. We were very lucky to win the B1G Conference Tournament the way we were finishing games the last 1/4 of the season! The team lost their energy and their legs which is the cause of all our shooting, passing and playing woes! If you cannot recruit a team full of 4 and 5 stars you need to do something else to break this trend!
What shred of evidence do you have that would give you any confidence that Painter could get a team to the FF?
Seriously? If he couldn’t get past a 15 StPeters with a lottery pick or the worst 16 in history with the 7’4 POTY, how’s he going to go on a run and win 5 against decent teams? He’s not.
The guys on TV were saying Purdue's loss was worse because Virginia was missing one of their key players (Deandre Hunter) during the game they lost. He came back the following championship season and is now playing for the Atlanta Hawks.
No chance of that happening. Painters never shown the ability and the only time he did, it was due to a historical shooting performance from the hottest player in the tourney.
