Last 2 assistant coaches?????

I see plenty of changes. First of all on the coaching staff, we have 2 assistants who have been head coaches, and 4 assistants who've been co-ordinators. I'm sorry this underwhelms you. You seem like a guy who won't be satisfied no matter what. Now as for the players, he has Hamilton, Jallow and Williams who are all 4 stars in other services. In case you missed that, we have 3 four stars. Somehow that isn't what I expected to see for underwhelming. Williams will be the biggest recruit in quite some time. Even with just Williams and Jallow. CJB has completely changed our secondary. If he adds Corey Winfield then it will improve that much more. I don't get how such monumental change can be taking place and some people don't see it. Underwhelming you say? I say you're wrong. I say great improvement has been achieved already and the best is yet to come.

P.S-Our new DC, Nick Holt, previously served as DC at USC and at Washington...yet you are underwhelmed? Oh my how opinions differ.

I mean, everyone was also excited that Hazell was an assistant at Ohio State. I'm not sure why you go from defensive coordinator at USC and end up as a recruiting coordinator at Arkansas (taking over for Bobby Petrino's mistress - I kid you not).

Again, I'm not saying I'm down or he's doing poorly. But after our past two debacles, I have high expectations. I certainly don't see the injection of energy that has been seen elsewhere with hires. And I said it multiple times in my previous - it's not always an immediate thing. There have been some improvements here and there - but like I said, there's not an energy or buzz about the program. And it's ok at this point - just cautious.

I really think that it is fair to say that in a fairly short window of time Brohm has exceeded what we have observed in the tenures of the last two FB coaches. To me, it is hard to argue against the position that things are improved.

Ok first off, nobody said it wasn't improved from the past two coaches. That being said, that's one helluva low bar you are setting. I think any of us could come up with better ideas than our two previous coaches did combined.

Ibodel has a point. Rather than comparing Brohm to Hazell , we should be comparing the job he is doing to the other BIG 10 coaches. Is he doing a better job than Fleck and the new Indiana coach? is he doing better than the Northwestern and Illinois coaches? in order to truly evaluate the job Brohm has done, we need to compare him to his current peers rather than to our past.

I have no doubt Brohm will field a better team than last year's model. But will it be good enough to start winning some games? that's the true measuring stick of what kind of progress and impact a coach has made.

You will probably see marked improvements but I don't see a turnaround W/L wise until at least 2018. The Brohm hire is a good one from the standpoint of football insiders and those who watch a lot of college football. For the casual fan, the hire doesn't resonate enough to generate major "buzz".

Most importantly we need better coaching against our peers. That will bring more wins and closer losses, and hence will impact recruiting the most. Nobody wants to lose, so just hiring a good salesperson isn't enough.

My thoughts are to use this class to fix the offense asap and start showing significant progress on that side of the ball. That should yield a couple extra wins (~5 next yr), which in turn will yield better recruits. After 1-2 yrs, we should be able to recruit better defensive players too, and then go for 7-8 wins. But with Brohm it has to start with offense, and I think our current class will help turn that around.
