I’m not 100% sure how to feel about this one. On one hand, he would be far from the first recruit to commit before an OV. On the other I don’t think that’s what is going to happen.

Barclay was down there over the weekend. So could be good news. Apparently it was retweeted by the get back coach as well. We will know more tomorrow...

I may not be remembering right, but I think coaches visited doerue in the bye

If it's down to the schools that 247 Sports indicates that he is "WARM" to, then Purdue seems to be a no-brainer. It could be that his decision is already made and he wants to commit now; maybe trying to preempt a potential commitment from another RB?

Crystal Ball says Baylor 100% for what that is worth, which may not be much.

There was another thread about crystal ball predictions that said they are wildly inaccurate until within 24 hours of a commitment. If it changes right before an announcement, then it usually reflects the truth. If it remains unchanged, then our hopes were just that - something that was fed by a web site to make us hopeful .

Sometimes I get disappointed by web sites that keep saying how elite athletes are interested, when we were plan c all along. I'm not sure which is better, to be a plan b or a plan c. Or to not to be included at all.

But no bat signal means no commitment right?

I will add the BAT signal is usually 100% correct. I haven't seen it lately

Outside of Young to OSU, you are correct. That was such an odd situation. Young currently sits as OSU’s third lowest recruit. That may end up being a mistake for him and if apurdue can land Wright and Bell, end up working out better for Purdue. Will have to wait and see.

I am going to guess King and James were the priority RB's on the board with the staff. When James committed to IU, it is very likely the coaches told King he either needed to commit (either silently or announce it) or they were going to put in full offers for other players who were either waiting for the OK to commit or who the staff knew could commit soon.

I guess you could say it was the old 'S*** or get off the pot' move.

Also, do you think the coaches are RS'ing Fuller? I haven't seen him play much this year after battling through the ankle injuries and surgeries. Would be nice to have he and Worship as the established RB's next year with Anderson and Horvath providing backup.

Perhaps they don’t use the “bat signal” when it’s obvious who the commitment would be?

Maybe Sampson was #2 and that is why he settled for bottom feeder IU?
Jeff Brohm reportedly has an incentive bonus clause built into his contract which guarantees him $50k if he secures a top 25 recruiting class. It only needs to be (1) of (3) from ESPN, Rivals or 247. No other B1G coaches have this bonus clause. At least none are known to the public.

I'm guessing the reports that PU was actively trying to flip 4* James were accurate and that 3* Doerue was always plan B. However, I think Doerue will be the better all around college player.

People I know in the recruiting world and blog world feel the same. At best they are of equal standing and that Doerue may actually end up being the better back. Put Doerue in Indiana and he is likely a 4* and a top 10 kid. He happens to play in Texas.

Our defense is actually going to be loaded with recruited talent AND returning a lot of experience next year. That, to me anyway, means coaches will have the luxury and of adding a lot of physical explosiveness. However, they won’t be doing it out of necessity. If Karlaftis wins a starting role, great. If he isn’t quite there yet and they keep Reviere there, then that’s cool too. If George gets here early, looks great, and they beef Reviere up for the inside, that’s also cool.

Sampson James won’t enjoy his experience in bucket games.

I think you'll be able to see Holt use players in more specific roles because of the depth. I think you may see Reviere and GK push inside on obvious passing downs to get the best possibly pass rushers in at times. Holt is going to actually have choices in situations rather than trying to square peg-round hole it at times. With Barnes showing an ability to pass rush, you could slide him down to LEO next season which could push Higgins to a DE spot and provide even more depth. For Holt, it's about getting his best 11 players on the field....and that'll mean playing guys in positions we may never have thought of before (Barnes at LEO for example)

I’ve never liked this posse strategy. I think it’s one of the worst ideas in sports. If a guy is 300 lbs ok great. If he’s 285 and not like just a ridiculous athlete (Like nfl ready right then and there) Big caliber lines just laugh and swallow them up. If they’re 265, you just look like a joke trying it. I’d put it on the level of a center shooting free throws granny style.

By then Neal should be even more explosive for his size.. and he can get to the QB without multiple blockers. If Reviere is 290+ Sweet, run him at DT instead of watts.

The biggest position I look to go smaller at on third down on the DL is just WDE.

Mum's been the word on Tario. I'm not getting a great feeling on that situation with all the surgeries.

Would have loved to have Young as a linebacker/rush end.... that's where he's going to play for Ohio State. We need good linebackers and he has elite athleticism.

What reports? Do you mean message board chatter? I am going to give the benefit of the doubt to the Brohm Squad for not actively recruiting another big ten commit which is against the unofficial policy. No snake oil salesman here. Doerue has far superior numbers this year than James (I know... different competition).

Since everyone else gets to speculate I am going to:
King calls Purdue staff and commits. Purdue staff calls James and says his offer is off the table as we have two backs in this class and are still pushing hard for Wandale. James sees writing on wall at OSU and bolts for his best remaining offer where he gets legit playing time at IU. Or maybe I have it all backwards and King was waiting to make sure James was not going to commit to Purdue to ensure he is the top back in this class (Wandale would likely be used differently).
