With prison overcrowding I would be surprised he serves more than a couple days. The Sheriff and Court system are putting violent felons on home monitoring I doubt they use a bed on this guy. I would prefer a larger fine to recoup money. The judge knows he ain’t serving much time.

I lived in Chicago for 20 years in the 90-2000's. It had a lot of the same problems, but the Daley's and the Machine kept the knuckleheads in line and kept the shitiness on the south and near westsides. Granted, Daley was corrupt and crooked, but compared to Mayor BeetleJuice, he was like the Dali Lama.
I believed the story when it first came out. However as the facts came out my belief dwindled. All morning on urban radio, 99% of the blacks calling in and the host agree with the verdict and sentencing. He basically deserved what he got.
No he deserved more. He deserved to pay back millions in lost resources and personally apologize to every family who was a victim of a violent crime and had their case put on the back burner because of this idiot - and statistically most of those are POC.
How could you say that it was an obvious hoax? Don't you believe that TV star Jussie decided to leave his apartment at 2 AM to walk to a Subway to get a sandwich in subfreezing temperatures? He was then attacked by two Black brothers wearing MAGA hats, who just happened to be out walking around in subfreezing temperatures in Chicago and it was portrayed as as a Racial incident. How could anyone find any flaws in that narrative?

It is quite insensitive and ignorant to highlight the Smollett case when during the discussion of racial injustices of the judicial system. Y’all bring up this one case and perhaps a few others when there are thousands in US currently and historically for decades that whites have benefitted favorably in the justice system. Also, it is more than just unequal sentencing. When was the last time a white people in police custody had confessions beaten out of them for crimes that they did not commit? When was the last time police planted evidence in a white person’s car when stopped? If stopped in the first place. When was the last time a white was harassed by police do no reason? Blacks have been going through this for decades and y’all have the nerve to get upset that one dude like Smollett is getting off easy.
Just because you and other white people have never heard of these cases does not mean that it doesn't happen. The fact that white people never hear about these incidents in history and currently is the exact point of white privilege. No facts? What about the Central Park 5 back in the late 80's/early 90's. Five teenagers were accused of raping a woman jogging in Central Park in NYC. 5 teenagers were arrested. Confessions beat out of them and they went to prison. Donald Chump at the time took out a full page add in the NYC papers calling for their execution. Fortunately for the boys, DNA has come to prominence and exonerated all 5 boys.
Imagine if African-Americans as a group committed crimes at the same rate as every other group. There would be far fewer cries of racism, police brutality, defund the police etc. etc. The issues would probably largely resolve themselves.
You're making a lot of assumptions. If you have bad cops and there are some of all races, I doubt race matters, if they want to incriminate someone by planting evidence or beating confessions out of people. You're just more sensitized to when it happens to Black people.
Sure there are bad cops of all races. 2 or 3 of the 6 cops involved in the Freddie Gray lynching were black. It was a black cop that shot the white lady in Minneapolis. However, most of these cases where unarmed blacks are killed, evidence are planted in cars, confessions beat out of people in custody involve white cops. I'm sure you can google this and google that to find exceptions. However, I challenge you and others to think from the top of your head that since you were a kid until now, have you ever heard of a white person in custody having a confession beat out of them for a crime they did not commit? Or heard of police planting evidence in a white person's vehicle.
Today, privilege is largely a function of wealth. Just read a book by a guy who spent 20 years on death row for a murder he did not commit (he is black). He said in that situation you better have the money to hire your own lawyer or you are often screwed. He was screwed,

Jussie Smollett’s case despite being a slam dunk was originally dropped by Kim Foxx based in large part (as proven) by a phone call of Tina Tchen, who you may remember was a member of Michelle Obama’s inner circle (some suggest the call was made on behalf of Ms. Obama. The special prosecutor was only assigned after a petition by a private citizen (and I believe a former federal judge). So please point me to a similar situation where a poor white defendant in a similar crime had charges dropped due to a call from an Obama accolade?

Still doesn’t matter. Even you can afford the best lawyers around, there is still the one sided justice system to deal with. The judge as far as what evidences gets in or out. Jury selection. Sentencing etc.
Things have changed in the last couple years on what you stated. How would one explain the people who were arrested on January 6th that were white and jailed versus the people who burned government buildings and looted in Minneapolis and other cities that were black and not jailed?
