How about a uniform thread?

Personally, I loved the "clean" look Purdue wore at Illinois. Black pants, white jersey with black numbers, and gold helmets is still my favorite road uniform combination. I may have preferred the regular gold helmets rather than the chrome, but I can live with that tweak.

I'd love to see them in that combo for the Bucket Game.

liked the uni's vs Ill. too. Hate all white which seems to be trending, like Mich and Mizzou to name a few.

The best part of that uniform combo was the lack of the beige gold. It looks especially drab on a cloudy day. Maybe some day we will get back to old gold, but until then let's keep the khakis on the hanger as much as possible.

yes, really need to get an old gold look...which is doable considering Army is a Nike school and they get old gold.

It's a choice the AD is making to stick with Vegas (beige) gold. Nike has produced a throwback jersey for us with a color much closer to old gold. The only logical explanation would be if Nike only offers vegas gold for apparel.

how about something a little different...

Mizzou is yellow.

The pic posted of Army doesn't look much different than the "gold" Purdue currently uses.

Like most of the posters on here, I prefer the old gold. But it's not one of my passions. I like the Saints jersey combos the best.

My passions lie in:
1) getting rid of the chrome helmets. They are horrible.
2) getting rid of the "cowcatcher" font on the bball jerseys. The arched "Purdue" across the chest is so much cleaner and classic.

Ugly.....I get the gist of looking like a tiger. If that's the case, could we hook up a mag-lev system and make Rondale truly unstoppable?

All joking aside, I really wish we could get more old gold but I understand uniform colors are likely on the bottom of Bobinski's list of important issues to correct and fix.

We once counted up how many teams call out Old Gold as their colors and it's a fair number. But when you go to try and find it (like for group items) it's impossible. I work with 4imprint a lot and they looked high and low for it with no luck. must be a case of either costing more to make or it doesn't hold the color very well. I even tried to die my own with Ritt (who has a mix of dyes for Old Gold). Ended up with a weird Khaki.

I agree that uniforms and colors are probably low on the priority list, but I believe they should be higher if purely from a marketing standpoint.

IMHO, the mishmash of uniform combinations weakens brand identity. Settling on and sticking to a clean classic look that incorporates modern styling/materials in football and hoops would go a long way toward making Purdue more recognizable to casual fans.

As loathe as I am to admit it, IU does a good job with this. Their classic basketball uniforms are instantly recognizable, and they change up their football helmets with unique schemes (the Indiana state flag symbol and script Indiana for example--we could do something with the "diamond P" Purdue as it appears on the drum) without wildly altering the jersey and pants.

My wish list would be (in no particular order other than the first):
Old Gold (think of the cash influx -- we'd all have to buy new gear!).
Ditch the cow-catcher for the arched "Purdue" on the basketball uniforms.
No gray uniform in any sport. Ever.
A "normal" classic number font for football and basketball.

Agree with the need to perfect and standardize the Old Gold color first. Enthusiasm for the anthracite/chrome/all black/all white alternate combos I believe is largely in part to the lack of enthusiasm for the vegas gold standard. The current gold pants look like L'eggs and Dockers had a baby. Get a good, consistent base Old Gold and wear it 90% of the time.

just to clear some things up about my Mizzou picture, I'm an old Gold guy too but the point I was going for was to go with our shiny Black helmets, gold uni, with black bottoms. No tiger stripes etc. and I hate the grey too.

L'eggs! What a tremendous pull! Wish I could like that a thousand times, FDB.

I actually love the chrome helmets in a night game setting. As long as chrome is “cool”, I doubt it goes away. You frequently see potential recruits use pictures of the chrome helmet in the SM posts too.

Of course they post pictures of it frequently - because Purdue wears it frequently.

Do they post disproportionately more than Purdue actually wears them?

You and I are perfectly aligned. I almost included the "no gray uni's" in my list.

We should start heavily advocating for the removal of the cowcatcher font.

Agree. Grey uniforms look bad. Illinois tried to pull that Galloping Ghost for homecoming with their grey uniforms but it just looks bad since there is zero orange and orange is their main color.

I would suspect those who like the chrome helmets and those who do not are split fairly evenly along generational lines. It’s just trendy now to do it. If you hate it and wait long enough, it will stop being trendy eventually and we (and everyone else) will stop wearing them.
